I didn't realize it until it started disintegrating, five years after I bought my 2007 GTI

That's white new car shipping plastic.... Take that off to reveal the aluminum. I don't know how you didn't see that just by looking at it. My door sils are just fine.. They had plastic on them too.

Thanks! I learned about the dead pedal sticker too (thanks to the post above). I'm not sure why the dealer didn't remove it, but the dead pedal looks WAYYYY better after I removed the sticker!

Today I noticed for the first time the front lights washer been activated. It was dark outside, the lights where on and a light rain so when turning the wipers on I saw a flicker form inside the car of
the front lights which means I guess when the washer fluid passed the lights to sprinkle on the lights cover it blacked out the lights for a second!

    That's awesome!

Someone needs to go find 'GTI-R' on their car somewhere.

I learned today that when you have your wipers on normal speed, when you come to a stop it changes to intermittent. That way you're not sitting at a light with the wipers going unnecessarily.

    Very cool.

Learned that hill assist doest function while brake pad sensor is disconnected. Didn't hit anything but was surprised after getting used to it over the past few weeks.

You can MUTE your phone conversation on the steering wheel. Was so annoyed that the 'mute' button from my GTI was gone. You have to scroll down on the MFI while phone category selected.......

It's gotta be a VAG-COM bit if they can do it. I can't see VW putting a different part on the car for that.

Exactly why I'll keep pestering the Canadian owners to quickly scan the ECU so we may play with the bits!

It may seem fairly obvious, but I like the fact that the gas cap locks itself like the doors and hatch. Went to fill up today and after running in to pay for gas and have a bit of a whiz I came back out to the car at the pump and the gas cap wouldnt pop open.

Double popped unlock on a whim and all was well. Good feature that...

I figured that out on my first fill up... I was on my way to LA from Austin- I looked at the fuel door, and thought to myself how disappointed I was that there wasn't a lock on the door. Then I went inside to use the restroom and grab some water. I came back and noticed that I couldn't close the fuel door. Upon further inspection, I see that there is a metal "bolt" if you will, that was not allowing me to shut the door all the way. So I unlocked the door, and locked it- I realized that is what controls the locking of the fuel door...

It's not just them. I did more digging last night on Aussie forums and it appears to be everyone but us. MY12 Rs in Europe and Australia also have the 2 stage disable process.

I learned that the arrow keys on the top left will skip tracks when using your iPod. I don't know why I didn't realize this before. With my non-navi GTI there were buttons on the touch screen to skip tracks, but in this car I couldn't figure out any way to do it except thru the steering wheel. Now I know!

Today I learned that, apparently, it has an electronic noise generator. Super disappointing... I was pretty happy with the sound.

I'll probably wait to remove/disable it until I install intake and/or exhaust. It doesn't take away from performance so I see no real harm in it being there, other than that it's annoying that it was so misleading.

That stupid Soundaktor comes off tomorrow if my tuner (GMP) has the time to do it. Unfortunately I don't have the correct tools for the wipers to come off otherwise I would try it myself today.
