Sup? Wondering if anyone has done this already. I purchased the wiring and oem camera w trunk handle and installed it but i'm not sure where three wires go. One wire coming from the camera is yellow. Dude where I got this from said it has to go to ignition power - another one says reverse light. Two wires that are by the radio connector (red and black) are loose. I'm confident blk is ground - but what about the red? Dude also said goes to power but a post I found for a Jetta installed has it wired to the Fuse box...

At this point I have no clue how to move forward. Anyone here can help me out? Here is the link to that DYI for the jetta:

    Thanks,

    Hi,

I am planning on doing this myself and have been researching and bugging other members for a while Below is a response from one of the members who have done the conversion. I hope this helps. Let us know how it went. BTW: do you have an RNS-315 or 510? Can you please post a part number for the harness?

"These are the three connections at the camera handle end of the harness. The blue and black connectors attach directly to connectors coming off the camera. The yellow wire gets tapped into the the reverse light wire. This is the trigger wire. Alternatively, you can run this wire to the CECM in connector C, pin 28, but that is a hell of a lot of work getting to the CECM.
The other end of the harness has the following connectors and wires. The big black connector here plugs into the back of the RNS-315/510. This carries the camera signal. The red wire is power, and needs to be inserted into the fuse panel in spot #16, which is the spot that it is located in in Europe. The black wire is ground, so find a ground near the fuse box and use that."

I think you'll need to get one, "thejew" has a lot more info and experience in this that I am and he is extremely helpful. Do you have RNS 315 or 510? Good Luck with the install, let us know how it went.

OK guys - good news! IT WORKS!!!!

After running the wires which was a bitch to do and tapping the yellow wire into the reverse light because the yellow wire is no way long enough to reach - so had to add wire and solder everything up. Red wire I ran to the fuse box in # 16 and added a 5amp fuse and the ground attached it to metal near the fuse box.

Of course there was coding that needed to be done (thanks Keroppi_2.0T) and after that - you have to reboot the radio by holding the two < > buttons plus the star button (voice command on the RNS-510). Here is a pic I took of the nav showing the camera... pretty sweet!

TIGSEL - if you need help bro - hit me up - i'll help you out as much as I can. One thing though - I didnt need the yellow lines to move with the steering wheel - for my wife this is good enough so I didnt buy the additional module. If this was my car I would have spent the additional 200/300 dollars - but my 2011 maxima has a fully working RVC so I'm pretty happy with this!

Excellent! I am next as soon as I get done with the body moldings. Thanks for the offer, I may pick your brains on how you've routed harness and what parts needed to be removed

Running the harness was a BITCH especially when trying to get the wires through the plastic tubing by the top trunk area. Unfortunately - I couldnt get them through so I cut the plastic at the base on both sides to get the wires through and used another small tubing so the wires are covered and then sealed everything with silicone (I'll take a pic tomorrow morning). The molding on the trunk door was pretty easy to remove - use a trim tool to snap the clips apart. When it came time to run the wires along the drivers side - I went underneath and squeezed the wire in (unfortunately I wasnt able to remove the trim out) but you cant see the wire and its safely tucked in.

Just make sure that if you need to extend any wiring - that you solder them together.

I may need to pick your brain if I can convince the wife this would be a worthwhile investment. Can you give me a ballpark figure in terms of $ and time investment for this mod?

NP - i spent several hours trying to get everything wired and to work. I bought the camera and wiring from a guy on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/330656583042...84.m1423.l2648

I also didnt have the RNS - I had the RCD so I invested in the RNS-510 (like the bigger screen). Product is legit and works great. Let me know what you need when you are ready.

    Hi guys,

Looking at doing this too - when I got my Tig they weren't offering the RVC even with the SEL - only the beeper. Based on the pics I found online, I think I have the RCD 510 (no nav, big screen, SD slot and three buttons on each side).
Would this impact (as in void) the warranty, though? I don't want to give them any reason to deny any warranty work.

The RCD510 I dont think its supported for this and you will need the navi. I used all VW OEM parts - and honestly I dont see how this could void the warranty... but I could be wrong and maybe someone else w much more experience could chime in for you.

This is where I got the info from and they say the RCD510 should support RVC:

I sure hope it does, that's pretty cool.

This is awesome, i have always thought the RNS-310-315 were not compatible for RVC, has anybody tried this on those head units? im still a bit worried about it since i've read in a few places its not possible?

11 tigs with nav/pano packege comes with RNS 315 correct?

.... or, as long s the 26 pin connector is present on the unit, does that mean it can accept a camera?

PIC request: anybody has a RNS315 Laying around that can check if this 26 pin connector is or not on the back of it?

Via VAGCOM i was able to find in the "navigation" address (RNS315) a check box option in there that says rear view camera installed

    thanks

and this is supposed to be the RCD-510 (sorry, nothing on the 315):

Based on my previous research, there are two versions of the RCD-510: the EU version that does have the video input to support the RVC and the NA version that does not. This thread gets into sorting that out: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...-up-camera-mod. It also seems to confirm that the RNS-315 supports the RVC because one poster towards the end (mjhubbard) states he has done it. This posting http://www.my-gti.com/1313/volkswage...in-assignments explains the RCD-510 pin assignments, and note the comments that not all of the RCD-510's have the video connector for the RVC.

There are aftermarket video interfaces for the RCD-510 to allow use of a RVC. Here is a thread: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...ideo-Interface (poor guy or gal didn't get a lot of love on that thread). Direct link to one of the manufacturer's webpages: http://qdis.co.kr/product/car-video-...ce/volks-wagon. Another seller's webpage: http://gsmserver.com/shop/video_inte...th_rcd_510.php. Search the terms "rcd-510" and "video interface" on the web and ebay if you want to explore this avenue. I decided against it.

As far as the RNS-315 and as noted above, everything I have seen indicates it does have the video connector to support the RVC. The photos just posted by TIGSEL seem to confirm this. Here is an overview comparing the RNS-315 and the RNS-510 with a RNS-315 retrofit DIY, and the overview also has a link to a PDF of the RNS-315 manufacturer's specs: http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/a...GPS-FAQ-VW.htm. This is TechniSat's (RNS-315 manufacturer) webpage http://www.carcommunications.technis...ukte&seite=2#9, but the link to the RNS-315's details page does not seem to be working.

    Yes, below the green plug.

I believe you'd need another module that goes into the armrest compartment for the ipod interface.

Got ya, I mean, I do already have the MIDI iPod cable in the armrest, but where would that connect to in the head unit? I just wonder if my 26 pin connector is being used for that accessory or it's free..
In other words is the 26 pin connector solely used for the rvc or can be used for other accessories like cd changer , iPod cable ect.

By this I am assuming you meant that nothing is plugged in correct? Yes, nothing is there. I am not sure what other accessory and if can be plugged in via 26 pin connector besides RVC. I know for sure it will not interfere with your iPod connection, so no, no need for any module. The only other module you may want to look into is if you want your guiding lines to curve when you move your steering wheel.
