Has anyone gotten the update yet? If so, what's the verdict?
My car is in the shop for a 4th time trying to get this update. This after contacting customer care with a list of radio issues and being told to contact my dealer for an update. I just got back from going to pick it up and of course no software update. The one on their showroom floor has SW-3680, but the hardware is H08, which seems real low, my first one was H61 and then the replacement unit they installed was H60. They are going to try to swap this for me tomorrow. Should I be concerned about the hardware version being so low? Map version is slightly lower too.
I'm not sure how mp3s playing in repeat when repeat is turned off, crashing MDI when shuffling playlists, being only able to shuffle artists A-G, MDI device taking 5+ minutes to be detected, and so on are considered normal...
My RNS 510 in my 2012 Passat SEL Premium was updated to SW 3690 in February 2012 after complaining politely to my service manager and to the CEO of VW Assistant. I already have a 5 month subscription to Sirius Travel Link. I had understood from several forums here and elsewhere the upgrade was going to be provided automatically after March 1. Something must have happened to the edic.
Almost due for my 10k service, will see what my dealer knows. Will be my first report to them as I discovered it after my 90 day appt and had only filed a complaint with VW customer care (who at the time was clueless). May have to follow up with customer care again if my dealer is lost on this endeavor.
I managed to talk them into swapping the radio unit with one they had on the floor. SW-3680, not the latest but much newer than what I had. The maps were even older on this unit, but I managed to get VW Customer Care to send a disc to my dealer to update this.
Dealers will get new software to update inventory and any cars that come in for service. The ETA for the software at dealerships is Calendar Week 4/12 (near the beginning of February).Jays response wasJay,
Where did you read this?
I called yesterday "VW Customer Care" and they told me that this is not true and they don't have any news about this software upgrade at this point..How can I find this official news.. I want to call them back with proof..

Copy and pasted from VWwebsource an dealer only VW resource that VW of America runs.
I know that when I went for my last service appointment a week ago, and I asked they told me that my NAV is up to date with their system. I showed them the Jay Pichardo's web page on http://askavwsalesguy.com/blog/2012/...-1st-kill.html and the guy went to show the mechanic the webpage. The mechanic told him that their system says the NAV is up to date, what more can they do. I know for a fact that I have NO travel link, and all my voice commands still continue to work.
I have some info on this...
The update CDs should have arrived at dealers within the last few days. The software version on the disc is 3690. There is an official VW bulletin that comes with the disc that says it is only to be used to update units that originally came with sw3680.
That said, the label on the disc I saw says it is able to update both sw2625 and sw3680. I'm particularly interested in that tidbit as I have a nav unit with sw2625 that I hope to install in my car in the very near future. I've been waiting for the update for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I really want to fix the media playback bug. Secondly, I want to swap out the HDD for a SSD, and a full software update disc is needed to do that. I really don't mind giving up the voice commands to get the (supposedly) improved performance of the newer software.
So, if your unit has sw3680, your dealer should be able to update your unit without issue. If your unit has sw2625, the story is that your dealer will still need to get authorization from their VW rep prior to doing the update. Or...you could wait for the disc to become available at the VW Technical Literature store and purchase it for $20 and then DIY at your own risk. Or...you could wait for an iso of the disc to show up on one of the file hosting sites (like was happened with the sw1140 disc for the previous versions of the RNS-510s) for a slightly more ambitious and riskier DIY project.
Just FYI....If your car did not come with the RNS-510 with minimum SW2625 then under no circumstances will VW Dealership move to the steup of updating your unit. Simply because Warranty will not cover things if something goes south. Your VIN number has all the information what options your car came with, including the serial number of your Radio.
VW Literature at this time will not get this disc, as it can cause major headache on the market as this disc Bricks Version A/B/C units, and VW wants to have control over some folks trying to do this update on their own and then come back for warranty claim.
There are ways already to get the SW2625 udpdated all the way to 3690 and keep Voice Commands as well.
Sorry to chime in with not a positive note.
I am going to the dealership on 3/29 to finish the seat recall work delayed for lack of parts. Will request the Nav update and report the results.
I currently have sw2625 according to what my nav says by holding the setup button until the diagnostics screen appears.
