Thread: oil change ? regarding the gasket

  1. 03-06-2012 03:52 PM #1
I've got a 2000 gti 12v vr6 I just got done doing my second oil change since I've owned it . The first time I did it when i changed the oil filter the o-ring was not on the filter cap. and when i put a new one on it started leaking oil. remembering the first time this happened to me I tried it again with a o-ring but was concious not to drive it all over town leaking oil. i took the o-ring gasket off and tightened it. and it seem to stop leaking. I had to do this the first time. Is anyone else running their car without the gasket on the oil filter? Or had a similar problem?

yea i tried different tensions when i had the gasket on. at first just until i thought it was tight by feel id start the car then it start spewing from the oil filter, so then i would tighten it more. it got to the point where the gasket popped out
