I like how you went ahead and put a front licence plate on to make it legal, even though it lacks a hood, bumper, headlights, and turn signals
Must have been great to take it for a spin![]()

question for everyone..
Im having issues with exhaust. I though I could use a Mk3 dual downpipe with a manifold spacer from BFI. I ordered one, but now im realizing that its made for a Mk1 manifold on an ABA swap.
As of now, I have a mk3 downpipe and 2 1/4 piping run under the car. I dont have it all the way back yet. Its sitting before the rear beam with a turndown. Its a real tight fit and its hanging a little low.
Does anyone know if a Mk1 manifold with bolt up to a 2.0 head? Im assuming not, but im wondering what others are running...

The MKII cluster looks good. Do the MFA features work? I think I might go this route because the clusters in my wife's Cabby keep failing.

Items on my wishlist:
This will be my first attempt at going for the "clear light" look. I usually go for the smoked look. I think it will match pretty well with the car. Here are the wheels I am interested in:
They are pretty different, I know. (of course by different, I mean NOT bbs) But I think she will pull them off pretty well.

Who makes the Star Sharks reps?
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Took her out for a nice ride last night. Sooo great to finally enjoy the car! It was exactly 1 year ago today that I bought this car. My goal was to finish the swap by today. Its nice to finally reach a goal I set for one of my VWs
Decided that the garage neeed a good cleaning. Took a long ass time and alot of power washing. Pics:
And for party-time tomorrow![]()

(sorry about all the hipster-gramed pics. everytime I ask someone to take a pic, this is how I get it)

Is there much noticable power difference between the stock engine and the 2.0?

the short answer.. its like night and day man. I feel like these motors were meant to be in the mk1s. Its really amazing how great it feels. Its only around 30 HP difference, but due the lightweight of the cabriolet, it feels like so much more.
You should give it a shot on one of your cabs![]()

Nice! Yeah, those ABA's can make a big difference in the Cabby. My buddy swapped one in his Cabby years ago and took me for a ride. I was surprised by how hard it pulled. Admittedly he had done some further work (exhaust, cams, intake) to the ABA but it kept up with his brother's MK2 VR swap.

thanks. For some reason im not 100% loving the wheels. But I just bought 'em so hopefully they will grow on me.
Update:
Ordered TT 2.25 exhaust
Found a downpipe that will work correctly(hopefully)
This weekend I will finish the exhaust system finally. Also on my list:
-Swap out another cluster. I ripped the circuit board on the back
-install the radio harness
-install OBD port in the ash tray
-get the dash 100% back together

Everything in the dash is working. Also wired all new speakers in. Finally she has music again :-)

yes, that is true. Thanks
I found a downpipe that will work for this swap from a friend. I will still need to find a spacer for it to clear the shift linkage. BFI sells them, but they are "out of stock for an unknown amount of time"
For reference:
Here the difference between the TT downpipe I bought and the stock MK3 downpipe:
And the difference between the stock Mk3 and the one I fabricated..
And so the hunt continues for a final solution....![]()

Called NLS and they get their stock of manifold spacers from BFI... Sooo I'm **** outta luck. Going to take matters into my own hands and weld/extend it. Pics to follow..

Thanks!
Today I made friends with the owner of Meineke near me. They have the ability to bend exhaust to any shape and they have much better welding equipment than me. So for $50 they added the space I needed on that downpipe:
Unfortunately I test fitted it and I need another inch added so I'll be headed back tomorrow. Damnit!
Also got my TT cat back exhaust today:
