I imagine being able to send more power to the rear has to really help balance this car out in the twisties.

BSHR is and I will be once I get to installing it. From what I understand, 60% rear, 40% front, 100% of the time.

100%! Won't that over heat the system? The way I understood it, it was a hydraulic pump running the activation of the rear end.

That's only possible if the fronts have less traction than the rear.

It's already been discussed that there are likely legal issues with them doing this.

You right however from what I took on the subject that was for manufactures not tuners ;-). I think most tuner chips are illegal anyways LOL! NEUSPEED back in the day had lil CARB stickers and were approved but I have no idea who are all approved these days.

Unpossible! They're either lying to you, or they live in some kind of fantasy world.
The Golf R has no center differential, and therefore can not "dial-in" any percentage of front-to-rear bias.

This is the reality of Haldex:

CARB only applies in the Communistical Republic of California.

First, you have it backwards. The manufacturer can put an option to fully disable. A non-manufacturer cannot as the traction control falls under a safety mechanism. Safety mechanisms cannot be modified in any way by a non-manufacturer. Second, there is a big difference between DOT safety requirement violations and CARB.

I know the difference , carb is more strict than dot so carb by default is approved the way I understood it. Here in Washington I was told no modification of any kind was legal. I got pulled over for a loud exhaust and right when the cop was explaining it to me a vette passed by so loud I couldn't hear him talking. Was so damn funny! Just a verbal warning and ever since I've had turbo cars.

Oh thanks for explaining to me the esp thing, I thought it only applied to the manufacturers.

The HPA Competition controller keeps the rear wheels engaged at all times. No slip or less traction necessary. I have it, its a great upgrade!

Still not getting it. CARB is for emissions. DOT covers car safety and a whole host of other regs. Not the same thing at all. Not a superset or anything. Each state sets their own emissions requirements.

CARB is fine. Not ideal for enthusiasts but it has greatly reduced air pollution. Fact.

Now there are some really dumb parts of it, like not being able to put on a perfectly good used catalytic converter. And I still don't get the visual inspection thing. If you pass you pass, who cares what the engine looks like as long as you aren't bypassing your exhaust or anything really crazy. The aftermarket intake for example has no negative emissions impact and yet will cause you to fail visual.

You understood incorrectly. DOT and CARB do not regulate the same requirements.

I've spent a bunch of time, and some money (about $500) working on figuring this out....I think I will try and test my theory this weekend after giving my wallet a small rest. I had a request in another thread for Canadian Golf R codes...but was told "it's been posted earlier in the thread" (btw - great way to not support someone trying to figure out an issue) and I only have one Canadian Golf R code to go off of (there may be more...but I haven't done a recent search).....when I have 3 different US codes to figure out what I need/want done.

If it works out...it will be a rather simple fix....

Have to pay to play. Nothing major, a couple miles per gallon maybe.

I have the comp controller and since installing a month(ish) ago I'm getting about 0.5 - 1 mpg less per fill then before.

Spoke with APR at H2O and they are working hard on a tune to turn off the ESP in addition to the ASR. Fingers crossed.

The fact that you can't turn off ESP has kept me from purchasing an R.

The first time it is publicly available, either from a tuner for purchasing, or via Vag Com, I will purchase a Golf R within a month. Guaranteed.

Lets hope it makes its way out soon.

And there is nothing screwy about what I posted. I don't want electronic intervention when I drive, simple as that. My GTI can get the ass out on command and makes it very entertaining to drive, but the non defeatable ESP kicks in and ruins all the fun.

Not to mention with higher HP applications, it comes into play with simple throttle usage.

Someone will figure it out sooner than later but hopefully not before its sold out in your case.
