Have to pay to play. Nothing major, a couple miles per gallon maybe.

I have the comp controller and since installing a month(ish) ago I'm getting about 0.5 - 1 mpg less per fill then before.

Spoke with APR at H2O and they are working hard on a tune to turn off the ESP in addition to the ASR. Fingers crossed.

The fact that you can't turn off ESP has kept me from purchasing an R.

The first time it is publicly available, either from a tuner for purchasing, or via Vag Com, I will purchase a Golf R within a month. Guaranteed.

Lets hope it makes its way out soon.

And there is nothing screwy about what I posted. I don't want electronic intervention when I drive, simple as that. My GTI can get the ass out on command and makes it very entertaining to drive, but the non defeatable ESP kicks in and ruins all the fun.

Not to mention with higher HP applications, it comes into play with simple throttle usage.

Someone will figure it out sooner than later but hopefully not before its sold out in your case.

I would be in the market for a CPO version anyway. They are just starting to touch into the high 20s, so my plan (if they can disable ESP) is to pull the trigger when I can get one for about 28k plus ttl etc.

I don't know if this would help or not but... Can we get any info from a 2013 gti and have that help figuring any of this out. From what I've heard they have the ability to fully disable traction control. Again I have no idea if this will help or not, just a thought.

I've read almost 80% of this thread and thus far I've come to the conclusion that I am still confused.

Is there a defeat available by unplugging the ABS fuse?
    Has anyone successfully done this?
Are the side-effects simply lights on the dash, no abs, and no ESP?

Yes. You can unplug the ABS and it will work, but then you will have no ABS and you will have lights in the dash.

Has anyone determined for sure whether pulling the ABS fuse disables the steering-angle sensor? And, if so, does disabling the steering-angle sensor have implications for the AWD and where it decides to send power?

Pretty sure Mike@tyrolsport confirmed this. There's a link to his thread in the FAQ.

so all-in-all what ive gathered from this lengthy thread is that the USA finally got an awd MANUAL golf but cant use it to its fullest ability because of the ESP?
ive been a VW guy my entire life and days like this make me wonder why!

I pulled it the other day, and had fwd only, no abs, and severe disappointment.

If you are looking at the fuse panel under the hood, standing at the front of the car the top right corner, second fuse from the top is the abs.

I've been following this issue and saw this posted today:

I did a quick search of the forum and couldn't find anything like this. Is this a hoax, or really someone who's defeated ESC?

    Deep regrets, much thanks.

BTW, Google search for Golf R Stability control turns up this thread. If it's sorted, good news.
