Yes, A Clash of Kings. Though it looks like they're pulling in some stuff with Robb that wasn't mentioned until the 3rd book to keep things chronological.

Just order the 2nd half of season 1 on Netflix. Been reading the books but stopped watching after the first 3 episodes of season 1. Can't wait to finish it.

I'm scrambling to finish up Game of Thrones and get a decent way into A Clash of Kings before season 2 starts just so I know the backstory to what's happening.

I'm in the middle of the third book and I just started reading them in January...

They're hard to put down. I intended on only reading the first two, but couldn't resist picking up the third.

After how closely the first season followed the book... I don't even know what to say about tonights episode... Not a very exciting premiere though

Really? I haven't gotten around reading the second book yet, but the premiere was pretty exciting. I definitely liked it. 1 hour seemed a bit on the short side considering how many plot points they introduced though.

Wow, they took a lot of liberties and changed the timing of or combined several events. They're also making up a lot of new scenes and even a couple of characters. I'm also a little annoyed with them showing the Gold Cloaks killing babies and children. That was implied in the book, but to actually show some of that stuff was a bit over the top, IMO.

I'm going to keep watching, but damn... I hope the rest of the season is a little more faithful to Clash.

I didn't think it was boring at all. It was a great opener that is setting up some pretty crazy stuff.

They took some liberties, but primarily the weakness of last night's episode was lots of setup. It's going to pay off as the season goes on, I'm sure. Tyrion is going to be even better this year

Based on some of the previews, it seems as if they've combined some of the events of Clash and Storm? Unless I've melded the two somehow in my brain (read them quickly back to back, so could be it...). Lightbringer should be in Stannis's sheathe, not in the sand (I thought?). That Cersei / Littlefinger exchange almost made me shut it off it was so lame. But the Gold Cloaks slaying bastards was pretty intense.

I thought they could have taken more time with setting up the plot and not changing so many minor details. Here's to much more to come and getting the quickly done setups out of the way.

Season 1 took a while to get going, but once it did So I'm expecting nothing less from season 2. Great episode last night, I love how Tyrion is the only one who can put Joffrey in his place, while mama Lannister has pretty much lost all control. Careful what you wish for and all that...

I suppose they have to make considerations for well paid actors. Rob isn't supposed to appear at all until halfway through that very pivotal moment in Storm. That dialog between him and Jaime was a penis comparison, IMO. The "training" scene in the whorehouse was just HBO trying to outdo Showtime, I suppose.

My wife read somewhere that Clash and Storm were going to be combined this season as well, so maybe you're right.

My only other gripe; Melisandra is not as hot as she is supposed to be. They cast a rather plain looking brunette with a bad dye-job, IMO.

I thought a couple lines that Robb and Jaime traded were pretty good.
J: "Three victories don't make you a conqueror."
R: "It's better than three defeats."

I also liked the part where Bran, Hodor, and Osha were walking and she was talking about the comet. I'm paraphrasing but she says something like "Some say the red is for Robert's death. Others say it's Lannister red and they'll be ruling soon. .....Red only means one thing, boy. Dragons."

I can't cite the sources off hand, but it's already been confirmed that many elements from the next two books will be incorporated into this season.

This is being done primarily for continuity and flow. Some things are happening simultaneously on a particular time line, but in different books. For a film/tv version, it makes more sense to incorporate events from a linear time line (that may have come from a later book), and get it out of the way.

Backtracking in this medium is tricky and tends to lose viewers. Besides, if it really followed the book exactly, several characters would disappear go almost the entire season.

The same thing was done in The Lord of the rings.

It is great to have it back on but I will agree last night's episode was a lot of setup with some great scenes. It does kind suck that Sean Bean/Eddard Stark is gone.

It just started and I am already bummed it is only 10 episodes long!!

What you say makes sense, but I didn't think there was alt character events along the same timeline until Feast and Dance. Hmmmm...

I've read all the books, and it has been awhile since I read those about to be viewed as shows, but the story of Davos (Onion Knight) is a prime example of someone that will HAVE to be shown over a narrower timeline for the sake of TV. His story is spread out thorough the books, but takes place over a rather short period of time, simultaneously with whats about to begin this season.

To a lesser extent, Arya is in the same boat.

The beginning of Storm of Swords talks about how things are running concurrently and events might overlap as he tells the story.

FYI - Season 2's second episode is already out. It showed on HBO GO (most likely because Sunday is a holiday) and is available on the torrent sites.
