The 1.8t's come factory with an aluminum pan. Skid plates are pretty common amongst B5's for that reason.

Well that sucks. Not like I've been relying on sheer luck, more like a ticking time bomb lol.

I'm gonna work on one this week. the last one I had decided to leave my car while driving

    aluminum>steel anyway...IMO at least.

The way I look at it, if you roll that low and hit something there has to be give somewhere. I would rather crack an oil pan than dent it and clog or starve the pickup, damage motor mounts, etc.

You make a good point, however, with steel it can take the repeated hits and keep on going! And usually the type of hit that will shatter/crack an aluminum pan would only put a minor dent into a steel pan.

maybe so, but you could dyno the same car 5 times within a week and each time get results that vary as far as plus or minus 20 hp due to air temp and density levels. plus on the dyno, you arent moving the weight of the car, so theoretically weight shouldnt have anything to do with power production on a dyno, only acceleration times.

but i could also be wrong. i dont know too much about dynos so someone correct me if im wrong.

You don't really have to worry about the oil pan in the 1.8t, the subframe protects it pretty good and I only know of less then a handful of guys on here who have busted their oil pans on the 1.8t.

If its an auto thats when you'll run into issues with the transmission pan.

    ask me how I know

^^oh damn! lol and I have a manual 1.8, non quattro. I can see the pan but it barely goes lower than the edge of the front lip. the lowest point, from what I can see, are the subframe jack supports, those hump looking things. I hit those more while bouncing on the roads lol.

Just looked up some statistics, Louisiana, New Jersey, Washington (state), Hawaii, and Pennsylvania seem to be at the top of most the lists…..I used to live in PA and I've gotta say Pittsburgh suuuuuucks. Back then I had a 1987 4WD Isuzu Trooper though

Lol yeah my side of town or pretty much 80% of houston has some smooth-ish roads. My side of town is all smooth. i live right next to an all tarmac road , which then connects to i-10 which is practically brand new (in road years) since it's been widen couple of years back. So having you lip scrub the ground isn't a problem.....if you do the speed limit, that is. lololol

Update: pics coming soon of the progress in between.

Are you driving this car or parking it?

Nice set of 255/40 Dunlops won't look quite as, um, silly, but they sure will be more fun going around corners.

    Seriously.

You can't run 255/40s and not destroy your fenders when you are that low. I proved that.

I guess you've never seen a drift car with an aggressive setup...I hear those guys are pretty calm in the corners.
