I averaged 27.1 miles per gallon on the way home from work last night. I was completely pumped! But I had to baby the car like you wouldn't believe in order to make it work. Some times, living in a very flat state with very straight county roads isn't so bad.

I still haven't hit 25 mpg. But i don't go by the computer, i fill and calculate using trip odometer. I've been on a mission this winter trying different driving techniques and different gasolines. I drive 61 miles a day to work and back. 48 of that is interstate at 72 mph, rest is 45-50 mph. No matter how i drive it gets 20.5-22.5 mpg per tank. I read on the W8 forum where some guy got better mileage with 89 octane so i tried 2 tanks of 91 and got a dismal 18.7 mpg, lmao. Now when the winter gas is gone i do get 24.5 pretty regularly. I am however always driving in the mountains. Thank God!

I've only had mine for 3 weeks, first 2 weeks went through a tank a week and got around 18-19mpg mostly city, but a good amount of highway. Replaced air filter and cleaned the pre-filter screen. It was nearly clogged. Also changed spark plugs. I've only used a half tank in the past week and getting 20.1mpg according to the trip computer, and it's slowly going up still.

Overall, I have been averaging between 21-23. I'm not unhappy with it at all. It's better than my Tahoe...at around 14-16 mpg.

Who said anything about babying it ALL THE TIME? I get on mine quite a bit, still gets over 20mpg.

Agreed. I still run WOT when I feel like it. However, I was curious to see what kind of fuel efficiently I could obtain. I'm not the type of person to turn down a red light run off with a mustang or any other vehicle out there.

My mileage is much worse. I drive in the city about 4 miles a day. Speeds from 30-50. Getting like 12mpg. Lots of stop and go, but when I take it on a long drive I get between 20 and 23 mpg.

Good thing I just got my mk1 rabbit close to daily service.

I can't get 20+mpg if I pushed it down the hill.

Mine seems to average 19~20 MPG which I am more that satisfied with. As a new W8 owner I'm still having too much fun with the 6MT. Perhaps some day I'll experiment with less aggressive driving to see what efficiency I can achieve.

Isn't the whole point of the W8 to get bad gas mileage and spend a lot of money on repairs/maintenance?

Top this, haha. This is really what I got after a 40 mile trip from Omaha, NE to Nebraska City. I was cruising with a bunch of old air-cooled, so needless to say the constant 5mph under the limit helped. I was so stoked.
