So I have had the Beetle for almost 3 weeks now. Driven it every day since. Locked and unlocked the car many times in those days. So today I go out to see if I can lower the windows of the car with the key fob by pressing the unlock button. I hold down the unlock button for like 5 seconds. Nothing happens. Oh well..... then i go and lock the car again. Now my red alarm flash button starts to flash. This has never flashed at anytime prior to this! Not once. Anyone know if this is an actual alarm or is it just an imobilizer? Also, anyone have any iformation on why all of a sudden after pushing the unlock button for 5 seconds it now works and flashes.. thanks

Not sure on the alarm issue, but as far as the window roll up/down with the fob, you have to change that in VAG-COM. It doesn't come like that standard, at least here in the US.

In the Beetle car manual, it says the light is just to say that the doors are locked. I have looked at that "non-blinking" light for 3 weeks now. Wondering what it was.

TheVWpartsstore.com offers a factory "basic alarm" upgrade kit for $200.00 that apparently utilizes the existing LED. Don't know what is involved in installing it...

i am starting to think that it was there the whole time. My wife's jetta does the same thing. I guess that I never really looked at the car when I have locked or unlocked it. Not sure how I could have missed it. My wife does have the door one as well as another on the dash that looks to be dealer installed that flashes when the lock button is pressed. she may actually have an alarm on her's. I need to did through the paperwork to see what exactly was installed by the dealer.
