Stumbled across this piece of Swedish weirdness while looking for 9-3 parts. Thought it was too awesome not to share. It's a Saab 900 wagon conversion made by the coachbuilder Nilsson. I think it looks really good as a wagon, and the window lines in particular remind me of the later 9-5 wagon. I'd rock this in a heartbeat.

Post up more strange, coachbuilt or otherwise custom wagons made from cars that never were wagons!

This isn't the same one, but Porsche built Ferry a 928 wagon for his birthday one year. He would get a one-off on his birthday. Sounds rough, doesn't it?

There were at least a few 924/944 wagons built, too. No, I don't think any were factory.

The Mercedes W126 S-Class was quite popular in that regard...



and there were (dutch?) conversions of the 7-series as well...



Also there were many other Mercedes wagons before the TE/TD debuted with the W123, from what I know only some conversions based on the Mercedes W110 and ambulance/hearse versions were authorized by the factory. This would make this a conversion as well:

I went looking for a Beetle with a bus roof grafted on, as I've seen several over the years, but I found this Woody conversion instead:

FYI - the 944's and some others (including 928s and 6 series BMW's were converted to avoid certain taxes in Germany....it's not that uncommon there.

After seeing the picture of the red 900 wagon... it actually blows my mind that Saab would not build this to compete with the Volvo wagons of the same time period. Definitely a more attractive Swede! (and I'm a Volvo fan...)... Actually one of the best looking wagons I've ever seen!

The Ferrari 456 is a huge favorite of mine, loved them when I was a kid... The wagon is like icing on the cake, looks awesome - and serves the 2+2 purpose of the 456 even better, with real room for those 4 people to take that car on an epic trip.

The S-class, and 7-series actually take to wagonizing quite well. They both look like factory models. Surprisingly the 928 look great too!

The American muscle cars look too 'mommy mobile' in wagon form... definitely need to be left as the awesome muscle cars they are. That C3 Corvette is absolutely fugly...

I would actually go sa far as saying that the Corrado wagon looks better than the original. And that 944 reminds me of the Jaguar from Harold and Maude which is about the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a car IMO.
