Thread: Coming soon to a MKVI near you

  1. 03-16-2012 05:05 PM #1
I will soon be coming out from under cloud cover leaving Grimey up there all alone. Nothing too radical, just some H&R Sport Springs to do away with some wheel gap and hopefully preventing any further nose bleeds for me. I'd love to go with coils or even bags but being a father to 2 beautiful girls prevents that from happening ($$). Besides, any big investments will be reserved for go fast goodies.

Nice. Premier just did my H&R coil install today. H&R has one of the best suspension products for the MK6platform.

Don't buy used, you will regret it unless you know the real history behind it. Saving up for coils is a good idea though. Trust us most of us have made that mistake before and started with springs, than cupkits and then coilovers, no reason to waste it when you can just save up and wait.

I've had springs before with no problem. I had coils on my 04 GLI and hated them except for the look. For now the springs will have to do. if I'm happy with them, they will stay. If not they will eventually change.

If you don't mind me asking what coils did you have on the MK4?

Good choice. I think unless you're going for good fitment or just plain slammed coils are overkill. Your newish stock struts coupled with drop springs should prove to be a smooth ride and nice look on stock wheels.

@ oempls, Iirc, they were FK's. Thomas basically said they were the greatest thing since slice bread and for the price I couldn't go wrong. I liked the look but want to go just a little higher in the rear end because of my sounds and added passengers would make my 3" exhaust clunk against the axle. I got under the car to raise the rears and found they were already as high as they would go. So my only fix to that situation was to got a piece of silicone hos, slice it, then wrap the axle and zip tie it to the axle to dampen the irritating clunk. The ride wasn't bad in the beginning. As my back got worse and I got fatter getting in and out sucked and the ride wasn't that good anymore. I'm a lot lighter now and the back isn't as bad so I'm starting with springs. Someday if I start $h!tt!ng money maybe I'll go coils but the KO4 kit will come 1st along with most likely a new clutch.

3" exhaust and the MK4 platform was a PITA. If that is the route you are looking at, I'd still reccomend a cupkit then. If you plan on running springs for a bit they tend to wear down on the OEM struts depending on how agressive they are. Makes for a better ride overall.

Not very agressive at all. Besides, as far as wearing them out, it'll probably take a few years as I drive about 2500-3000 miles/year. We use my wifes car for most of our day to day driving. I do plan on doing many things to this car but they will happen a lot slower than they did on the MKIV. Priorities have changed drastically. Getting out of debt and taking care of the family are tops. Anything left over might go towards the car.
