pm'ed on exhaust manifold
#1
I'm swapping a TDI into my TT and the AMU 1.8T engine must go. Engine had 43k miles, timing belt was redone ~10k ago and was apparently off a hair and I bent ONE exhaust valve at high RPM. Piston is still good, head can be rebuilt with minimal parts. Except for one valve and one piston, all parts are like new. All prices are OBO and do not include shipping or any fees incurred.
$800 - AMU short block with original cross hatch in cylinders, 43k miles. Ding in a piston, easy fix
$250 - Disassembled head, needs one valve and maybe a seat recut, maybe not. All positions marked
$100 - AMU camshafts, like new, each
$200 - hydraulic tensioner, non-VVT
$200 - AMU hydraulic lifters, like new
$50 - valve cover
GONE - bolt-down ignition coils, each
$100 - water pump, metal impeller, like new
$25 - timing belt tensioner and rollers, each
$100 - Throttle body
GONE - Diverter Valve
GONE - fuel rail with pressure regulator
GONE - crank position sensor
$50 - cam position sensor
$50 - knock sensor, each
GONE - coolant temp sensor, green
GONE - K04 turbocharger
$50 - oil and coolant lines, each
GONE - 225 intake manifold
GONE - 225 injectors
GONE - K04 exhaust manifold
$1500 - FWD 6-speed gearbox (re-gearing my awd box with the guts of a euro FWD TDI box)
GONE - Factory dual mass flywheel
GONE - Clutch disc and pressure plate with normal heat spotting
GONE - non-immobilizer ECU
$200 - engine wiring harness (small connector)
$200 - engine wiring harness (big connector)
$200 - SAI pump
$50 - kombivalve and hard line
GONE - plastic hoses to feed SAI pump
$150 - oil filter/cooler housing
$150 - in-tank fuel pump
$150 - EVAP equipment in RF fender
GONE - Main engine cover
$100 - Hybrid (steel bottom) oil pan
GONE - OEM aluminum oil pan
And lots of assorted valves, hoses, lines, cables, fittings, electronic bits, you name it - if it's not needed to run a diesel, it's good and it's available

trying to troubleshoot a problem
#6
Thank you for the heads up on my pricing. I know the "all prices are OBO" isn't worth much and the prices might discourage people from even inquiring, but with the exception of one valve, everything is in pretty good shape. 43k miles and garage kept, so unlike a brand new part, these parts are tried and true. Obviously, I don't want anywhere near the price of a new part, but these parts are the closest alternative to buying new. If you're interested in a specific part, PM me.
Speed, that is an interesting proposition. My concern is that I don't have a working car to test it in, so if you've got a wiring issue that fries ECUs, I'll never know until someone buying my ECU asks me why I sold them a dead one. I'd be happy to help you troubleshoot your problem though - I've studied these wiring diagrams and others pretty extensively, and I've got a lot of history with troubleshooting really tricky problems. PM me or link me to your help thread and I'll see what I can do.
Evo, I have charge pipe.
Turbo manifold sold for a big discount, will update original post. Hentai, I'll ship it USPS Priority tomorrow. Truly sorry for the delay.
#8
Your in the dfw area, right? I have to do some diagnosis on my car and then i'll get back to you.
#9
Evo, just want to make sure that we mean the same thing by "charge pipe", since there's so much plumbing in that engine. Do you happen to have a picture or a part number I can reference?
#10
A few more things gone, thread updated accordingly. Still waiting on responses. Private messages work better for me. Head and lifters are pending, I think.
#12
Haha thank ya. It's coming together. Probably going big turbo, big nozzles, 11mm pump, may build block and port head, may run bigger camshaft, not sure yet. Should be interesting for sure.
#13
Are you going to do a write up on your diesel swap? I am interested in doing this as well and would love to follow your progress!
#14
Still tons of stuff left over. Would love to find new homes for the AMU 9:1 short block, the K04-022 turbo, like new camshafts and lifters, a rebuildable head, and TONS of plastic stuff that routinely fails on higher mileage cars. Make an offer, don't be shy.

All this time, I thought my location showed up on my posts. I am in Plano, TX - a suburb on the north edge of Dallas.
#17
Still tons of stuff left. Lots of tire kickers, nobody with money or actual desire to buy parts. What's the deal - everyone already spend their tax refunds?
#18
price for the charcoal canister and whatever is attached to it please
#21
Worst case, I can stick it on a pallet and ship. Probably wouldn't be too cheap.
I have charcoal canister removed, along with all Evap equipment.
Also, just found my SAI pump is bolted together and somehow an upgrade from factory.
Also, the engine cover bracket that bolts to the front of the intake manifold is of the bolt-down style, not the 1/4 turn fastener style, and is more easily compatible with hardware upgrade/finish kits.
#22
Lots of bits left! Still no takers on block, head, valvetrain, and a lot of hoses and management bits.
#23
need the T-piece rubber hose.
shipped to 92870
pls pm me ty!

im looking for a bare block (no pistons or rods or crank) w/ oilfilter housing and oilpan. $500 shipped, pm if interested
#25
If you are not dead-set on an AMU block, I have a buddy with a bare 06A block sitting in his garage. Are you open to going oversized pistons?
#26
im going stroker, any 06a is fine but prefer amu

I haven't ordered the FWD box from RyanP yet, but what I'd do is order the TDI gearbox, axles, starter, clutch hydraulics, wire bits, brackets, pedals, clutch, and flywheel from RyanP over in England and then disassemble the FWD TDI box and swap my TT's guts into it and the TDI guts into my AWD box, and then sell the whole swap kit. RyanP wants 1400GBP for the swap, so I'd need somewhere around that to cover my costs.
#29
by the way, Jedge, do you need a TDI crankshaft for your 2.1 build?
#30
yes but not for awhile, i wont be able to have access to a crank straightener for some time, however i might try to go 10:1 compression because i hope to switch to E85 sometime down the road.

Sorry for delay, Jedge. I actually found a guy who wants the rods and pistons, so maybe I'll make the crank into a lamp like my other one and sell you the block. Depends on what he's willing to pay for the rods and pistons. What are they worth - any idea?
