I'm a big fan of the G3 and would love one of PTR91's offerings...preferably one of the basic GI types.

I really wanna get a hold of one of the new Robinson Arms XCR. It grabs my interest more than any of the new age assault style rifles.
#39
I've been looking at those too. The GI is rumored to be less picky about ammo than the higher end PTR's.
Not sure if you've seen the movie The Kingdom, but there's a brief scene where Jamie Foxx's character unloads a G3 on a Mercedes full of fleeing bad guys. Simply awesome.![]()

RE: XCR
This is a shame...because while lots of people "like" the XCR, they've been a commercial disaster, mainly due to complete lack of reliability. Almost every site I'm on there is someone who owns 2-3 of them...and have been through 3-4 of them to get one that works.
The company just isn't up to snuff, which is sad because it could be such a success. They are complete pot-luck when you order one. Robinson Arms also has a really piss reputation simply due to the fact that they released another rifle before ---- then dumped it, and don't support it anymore with parts, spares or service.
That alienated all of the owners of course.Cool idea, piss poor end product.

I don't believe the 2012 models are that significantly different. Either way, the company has a bad enough rep that I personally wouldn't bother.
Re: PKM
Easily one of the finest medium machine guns ever produced...though I suppose it still qualifies as a light machine gun. Fantastic freakin' gun. Brilliant design.

I can understand the premium for a no-name-company serial #1 rifle...but the production model at $50K? Titanium ain't THAT expensive.
PS: I wonder if these guys actually sell ANY rifles. Who the frack would pay them $3K+ for no-name rifles? That's money to buy any of the top tier AR's on the market.

it would have to be gas or piston operated.
but it looks like the bolt carrier group was too big to fit a standard charging handle so they made it a side charger.
bet its a blast to shoot... literally.
after a bit of reading, gas pressures aren't much higher then 5.56. but volume is probably imense. if they built that rifle right(which i'm sure they did or at least hope for that price) the dwell time is correct, a heavy buffer and spring is used it should be fine. the bolt face takes all the abuse anyway.

When they come stateside (maybe next year) in 5.56 trim, I'll be down for getting one...IF...they're under say $1750-1850 or so. If they launch them into the stratosphere like $2300+ then I won't.

The ACR has been shockingly mediocre thus far (reviews all over the board, most of them not so good).
There are already a few companies who have released a handful of modifications for the SCAR which fix some of its weak points (metal hinge to replace the plastic stuff on the stock etc.). That said, I don't think the SCAR or the ACR are anywhere near as advanced as the Beretta design. None of the polymer guns have really been break-throughs, but the Beretta is probably closest.
So, hoping it gets good reviews (it's being fielded in Afghanistan but I can't find reviews from the Italians using it). I'll even retire my AK's if its a solid rifle. Then again, they could come in and blow people out of the water with a $2500+ price tag.![]()

I doubt it. They have a lookalike .22LR model which should be out sometime (it has about 60% of the features and shares no real components I don't believe). I don't think they've mentioned a 7.62 model.
I don't really care for Nutnfancy, but here is a review which covers most of it...

I think it's pretty f_cking ugly.
But from everything I've seen, it's a legitimate "next generation rifle". It's what I think the ACR/SCAR should have been, instead of piston guns built around AR controls.
I look at an ACR or SCAR and see a piston gun, side-charging handle, with a folding stock ----already have that in my AK. The Beretta looks like a nice, lightweight option, more of what I had hoped the ACR would have turned into. We'll see. But if it is sub $2K, I'm definitely in (I have more than that in my AK's).
I'll slowly stock pile a few AR magazines here and there and hope it comes out in the next year or two.![]()

Takes standard AR magazines, so it'll likely take PMAGs, and if not, then EMags, Troy's new magazines, or Lancer magazines etc.

A PSL carbine (7.62x54R) with AK style stock and finished in 'Russian Red'. I believe the stock is Ironwood designs.
Shuff's Parkerizing Mini-G with Mag-Feed conversion. I have decided this will be my next rifle. Garand with .308 barrel and takes M1A/M14 mags; sure there is the M1A Scout, but this is pure Americana.
Shuff's Mini-G again; this one is still in 30-.06 and has a en bloc clip pouch on the stock. The Mini-G can be had in 30-.06 and .308.
Mr. Shufflin is great to communicate with and answered all of my questions promptly and very in-depth. You can either send him your own Garand for conversion or order a factory-built one. Also, CMP has Garands with .308 Criterion barrels for $995 and have block to not allow 30-.06 to chamber; Mag-feed conversions start at $450. Very tempting right now to finish up FFL03 and CMP paperwork.
ETA: I'm in no way associated with Shuff's Parkerizing; I just discovered his services and rifles and communicated with him a bit and wanted to let others know.![]()

I have a few Lancer mags for my SIG 556... They're pretty nice and the clear effect goes well with the wannabe 551 look.
