its a 89 golf syncro... i dont know what kind of gearbox its running...
probably stock.... but it can handle the 1.8T @ 150bhp?
i might go for upgrading to 4motion later...
I guess installing 4motion on a management for a FWD car can be "funny".
Or is it just to get "standalone" haldex controller?

standalone is not the best/easiest route.
The OEM ecu is more sophisticated than most aftermarket ECU's out there. Most people who go standalone don't know what they are doing and they blow motors at low power levels.
The cheapest simplest swaps I have seen have a donor crashed car - the ECU, harness, key, and instrument clusters are swapped from the donor car complete. some with the cluster stashed under the dash so you don't even see it. The imobilizer defeat options available now eliminate the needs for this.
standalone is only easy if you are just writing a check.

If you have a normal syncro you should have a 020 gearbox (no cable shifting!).
These gearboxes are very weak, just as the 90 degrees distribution box.
Only the G60 and the rallye golfs had the much stronger cable shifted 02A (fwd) and 02C (4wd) gearboxes.
I recommand to go for a 02C set up.
