As the title states post what your parents or parent or guardian had while you where growing up as far back as you can remeber. You can post your experiences with them if you want. Pics are optional. If you cant remeber just post the manufacturer and around what year.

1. Early 70's blue oldsmobile either skylark or cutlass around 1990 I was 4
2.1992 Ford Festiva just like this one. Had a static shock issue everytime I got in. I was about 5 or 6

3.70's or 80's yellow datsun not sure what model, they won it an auction same age as Festiva
4.Chevvrolet Spectrum just like this one
5.86 subaru xt just like this one, wish I got to drive it. Digital Dash was so cool for me at 9.
6.91 Celica Gt, Red. I was able to drive this before they got rid of it when I was about 16 or 17. I wanted it, but family had financial issues.
7.95 Nissan Pathfinder, burgandy. I learned to drive stick in this thing.
8.95 camaro v6, I owned this car after I moved since I didnt have a car, but gave it back when I had to go on deployment.

97 Chevy Express 1500 with Conversion - used for road trips when all of us kids were at home (2 of us are in college now) now used for extra car/moving stuff

My parents don't buy cars very often, My parents are of the drive them into the ground mentality

'61 Renault 4CV, that they bought new. First car I "drove," when I was 5.



'55 Dodge Custom Royale, was my grandfather's car before they got it from him in the '60s.

1978 Honda Civic (replaced the '72 Hornet - learned to drive with this one and became a hand-me-down)
1983 Honda Accord (replaced the '77 Hornet)
after that is about when I left home.

I grew up in the back of Chevy Caprices. Nothing but Caprice wagons. By the time I had my own car, my dad's 4th Caprice had 494,000 km on the LT1 and it was on its second transmission.

My mom might of had a 510 from the family pics and the pics I just googled thats what it might of been. From my unlear memory of this it was way better than that festiva that always shocked us with static, it was loud from what I could remember.

In for some Communist cars:

1. First car my parents ever owned was a Zaz 968 A in green. Air cooled, RWD, singe carb, solid rear axle communist POS:



2. Second car my parents had was a Wartburg 353 Deluxe in red. Water cooled, FWD, 3 cylinder, 2-stroke engine. It had 4-spd manual transmission which had the ability to switch gears without using the clutch. Very very ingenious device! The gear lever was mounted on the column.



3. My graddad eventually got too old to drive a car so he handed down his car to my dad. It was a Volga in black color. The exact model escapes my mind. It had 3-speed manual with gear lever on the column. Front seat was identical to the rear seat and it was a full bench. It was somewhat common to swap the front seat with the rear because the driver side would sometimes collapse.

Furthest back I can remember was my Moms 90s Golf. It was a Red 4door and I remember always taking trips to NC beach in it as a kid and sleeping inside the trunk with one seat down in the back. Me and my brother always thought that was so cool for some reason haha. My dad drove a really old Merc that my PopPop had imported over here from Germany but I dont remember what kind it was. We only had it for maybe half a year. After that, my dad bought a red Audi 80. It had a crank sunroof but it was a pretty cool and it ended up being my first car after I got it from my brother. My mom then got a 97 Passat TDI wagon that we still have to this day. They bought it brand new at the very end of 97 and it has over 220k on it, original clutch and still going strong. After my dad gave my bro his Audi, he bought a 2001.5 Passat 1.8t. He still has it but hes been thinking about getting something alittle nicer, we'll see if he ever does. He also has a 69 Kharman Ghia with a 2.1 stroker motor and alot of other nice air cooled bits. Had the motor and trans all built in Mannasas VA by this guy whos like a legend with aircooled VWs. It mostly sits in our garage but hes slowly been fixing small things on it over the years. He drives it alot in the summer time tho, such a sweet classic VW.

2. 1992 Toyota Previa Our first van, I remember it had an incredibly musty smell to it



3. 2000 Mazda MPV Hard to believe it's been 12 years since these came out, and I still remember the day we brought it home, Reliable van in the end, but my did it ever rust.

Hard to believe it's been seven years since the lease ended on that one.

After the RX330 and A6, my dad got a 2005 S4 Cabriolet and my mom got a 2008 X5 4.8i, but it was too much fun for her, so my dad took it as a winter "beater" and she got a new Cayenne V6 (much softer ride and easier to drive) last year.

Out of their cars, the X5 is actually the most fun. I've offered to take it off their hands many times, to no avail.

Wow, so many beautiful cars here!
I wanted to mention though on the person that grew up with "90's Japanese automotive excellence", that the Nissan Quest vans had 3.0L Ford engines and a Ford transmission. I'm not arguing that Japanese didn't make great reliable cars, just saying that the Quest was built with the Mercury Villager and I thought that they usually had a lot of problems with transmissions especially. I could be wrong, though.
One other thing - I had an Olds Firenza when I was 17 after my dad wrecked my Town Car (no full coverage and an odd young person car but I loved it). Thanks to all for good memories

My mom had a Ford Maverick just around the time I was born and traded up to a wagon


The first wagon didn't have the faux wood and had that naugahide seating (towels were used in the summer)


Then she upgraded to the Crown Victoria Country Squire LTD


My father had a beetle. Not sure the year, but he also had a Datsun B210 then a Volvo 240DL


Then we had two jeeps, 96 Cherokee Classic and a 01 Cherokee Sport, then a 02 Grand Cherokee Laredo.




And my mom now has her dream wagon, 2010 XC70.



Probably has influenced my love of wagons and Jeeps over the years. My wife won't get a mini-van so she'll be in the SUV and I'll take the Euro-wagon when the time comes.

When I was really small my dad had a Golf Mk I like this



my mom a Scirocco like this (in stock trim obviously).



Then in 1984 my mom got a new (blue) Passat and dad took over the Scirocco. It stayed like that until 1992 and is probably the most memorable vehicle set up of my childhood.

The first one I actually remember is dad's one-and-only Volkswagen, a '63 Notchback, like so:



He should never have had a manually shifted air-cooled car. Dad's no gearhead, that's for sure!

Then a '63 Nova when the Notch died of a cruel and under-revved death:

This, however, is the car I remember best:

That was a pretty damn good car, but when I was grown, they came up with a new(!) '86 Delta 88, what a compete heap it was, too:



I shudder just thinking about that car. I don't think I've ever been more glad to see a car go in my lifetime.

They bought a new Intrigue in '98 and have it to this day.



It's been a great car, too. It's had the steering rack replaced a couple of times and regular maintenance, but that's really about it.

#1. My father used to drag race his 1967 charger with a 383. Then I was born. No more drag racing. I ruined everything.

Car was sold a few years ago (to afford harley davidsons)

#2. Old Cutlass Supreme, with T-tops (which were almost stolen about 100 times)

#3. Chevy Lumina Z34. Pretty badass car.

Still sits in my driveway. 115k miles, blown headgasket, and disintegrated interior. It was my mothers pride and joy, and we can't get rid of it. Someday I'll fix it up when I have the time and money because it's a fun ride

#4. 1969 plymouth roadrunner

Green, 383 hood but had a 318 swapped in my previous owner, bought as a project, sold to buy more harleys.

Now we own nothing but Jeeps and Volkswagens

I was born in 1988. My mom was driving a 1981 Pontiac T1000 and my dad had a 1986 Dodge Ramcharger.

My mom's T1000 when it was new:

The T1000 was replaced in 1992 with a new Taurus GL. In its later years:


The Ramcharger was replaced in 1997 with a 1995 Explorer, which later became my first car.


My mom replaced the Taurus with a new Forester in 2001. It's about to be replaced by a new Impreza:


And my dad replaced the Explorer in 2005 with a 2001 Outback:

92 Mazda MPV 4wd manual - mom's - sold before move to AZ in 93.

93 Ford F150 XLT extended cab 4.9l 6 w/ manual trans. - 92 Jetta was traded for it. - Sold truck in 97.

83 Jetta Diesel - bought to flip in 94
88 Fox - bought to flip - dad paid $200 for it in 94, sold it for 1500.
78 VW Rabbit - bought in 96
84 VW Rabbit - bought in 97
87 Audi 5000 bought to fix up as a second car - never happened.

86 VW Jetta diesel coupe - traded for an 84 BMW 318i

traded in 84 BMW for a 97 Jetta GT in 2000.

Dad bought an 85 VW Golf and gave mom the 97 Jetta shortly after.

in 01 Dad traded the 85 Golf in for a new Jetta Wagon for mom on mother's day.

Dad bought an 01 Tundra V6 4wd Manual and sold the 97 Jetta.

Around 01 Dad bought a 68 MGB to restore - sold it in 2008.

Jetta Wagon was traded in on an 03 Jetta TDI.

01 Tundra was traded in for an 05 Jetta TDI.

03 TDI was sold and an 06 Tundra double cab was purchased.

06 Tundra was traded in for a leased 09 Camry. - dad's
05 Jetta was traded in for a 2010 Jetta TDI Sportwagen - mom's

An 04 Camry was purchased to replace the leased Camry, but both ended up being traded in for a 2012 Corolla.

So they currently have the 2010 JSW TDI and the 2012 Corolla.

Totally pissed at my dad at getting rid of his Jeep couple years before I could drive. The Caravelle was my favourite car as a child. Still trying to find decent examples of both to purchase. Needless to say my parents have had an amazing experience with American vehicles. The Jetta was the first non American car they owned since being in Canada in 1988.
