I am temporarily going to run a g60 set up in one of my MKII's over the summer till I finish building another 16vt set up. The only reason I'm even messing with this is because I practically stole a corrado a few weeks ago with 88k miles on it.

I pulled the head and pan off the motor to inspect internals. I wanted to make sure the motor itself was safe to run and nothing catastrophic went on. The car was apparently sitting for the last nine years so I want to make sure Im not shooting myself in the foot here as that I dont know $hit about the car. It all to my surprise looked extremely well.

Now my question is, should the supper charger be rebuilt or gone over at all? What should I be looking for to determine its safe to run? I know that the skinny belt inside should be replaced, and it actually looks to be in good shape, which leads me to believe it was at least mildly serviced before it was totaled. However the bit of white grease I found in the intercooler pluming wants to tell me otherwise. Is this normal? Or should I send this off to bbm for there 200$ look over?

    Thanks
    Austin

I would always send it in to be inspected or crack it open to look as long as you know what you are doing. Even sitting, the apex strips probably got brittle and would likely snap.

Just go on the safe side and have it looked at or you may end up with a big paper weight.

a nice rule of thumb, if your not sure if your charger needs a rebuild... do it. just to be on the safe side

Yeah I'm sure your right. I was trying to talk myself out of sending it somewhere just because it will hold up my project a little. But your absolutly right, Im not trying throw a good deal in the trash. Does the bently give a decent tare down disciption? I don't have the Corrado manual but I soppose If it would show how to replace the apex strips it would be worth it

Actually, I think there are DIYs on here that are going to be more helpful if you are dead set on doing it yourself. It has been a while since I have had to look at that section in the manual, but IIRC it is not helpful as I recall hearing VW basically advertised the chargers as "maintenance free." Must have been a joke that did not translate into English...
Even if someone changed the belt, it needs to be looked at. Hell, even 30,000 on a rebuild with unknown oil change intervals and weights would make me want to get it checked out.

Haha. Maintaince free! ... That is a joke lol. Thanks for all of your imput though. After talking to one of my other buddies about this, he made the point that it would be worth more in a sellig point if I had recoreds showing it was looked at and parts replaced. Since the idea is to sell the set up after summer, it's just the smarter thing to do. I'll call bbm tomorrow morning.
