Great pics, thanks for sharing!
So sad seeing the two Ferraris with dings in them though.

my picture taking skill are not the best but I though I would share anyway.
A friend/coworker belongs to the club and was able to take me along. It was kind of a nasty morning but by mid day it dried up and and even got a bit warm out. There were a lot of very nice cars there. There was an incident early in the day with two challenge cars. no one injured. pics of the carnage included.
I have a few others but I picked what looked like the best shots in thumbnail.
thats me in the passengers side of the gallardo. was a truly crazy ride.

Awesome man.
I would love to go to an event like that, I am sure the pics don't do it any justice.

The 288 GTO looked a little funny, but a skim of FChat confirms it is the real deal - #275.
As of 2008 that one was still with its original owner.

yeah that lap is where they went off. it was on the back side near oak tree.
the gto was sick. the owner was extremely cool.
racerrRex, I was invited myself. My friends membership card was checked at the gate. I think they have the entire track rented for today and tomorrow. I cant get out of working tomorrow but my buddy is going back. Apparently more cars are planned to show up tomorrow.

Awesome stuff. I can only hope to one day have a car of that caliber and being at those types of events.

I think I've seen that noble before.
I love all cars, I just happen to own a few pieces of german crap at the moment.

I love the 288 GTO, it's so damn pretty. I like it way more than the F40.

This looks awesome... I should be relocating to NoVA in two years or so and I'll be missing the trips to the Nürburgring.
Do they do open drives there or do you have to go with a group?

Nice to see owners using their Ferraris for what they were meant for. Even if they do get damaged.![]()

they were pretty lucky all said and done. the track was still a bit rain slick and since they were going relatively slow, it wasnt anywhere near as bad as it could have been. Joe pulled a piece of metal from his mirror out of the car and said it had come in and hit him. the Porsche went off 2 times but both were fairly uneventful. broken lip and turn indicator.
I am not sure if you can just show up and pay to run. It was my first time there. My understanding is that clubs rent the track out. One of workers told us that a porsche club was there over the weekend and several cars were taken out on flatbeds.

I'm not sure how the ferrari club handles group classing. It dosen't look like they do because all i see is a number on the windshield. It could also have to do with the amount of members that were there too. My cobra club that i'm apart of has different groups that we run at vir and summit point. It's a good idea to have groups in my club considering the amount of people that attend.

yes there were groups, would have been a mess otherwise.
The groups were color coded. The lambo I rode in was in the green group, which was the experienced drivers in the fastest street cars. There was a red and yellow group as well and possibly one other. the challenge cars and the porsche were in a group. There was a beginner group as well that had instructors riding along.
#32
In which group did the 2 Ferraris make contact?

To me, the 288 GTO is still the quintessential look of a 'modern' Ferrari.

I believe you can do open driving at VIR if you're a member, but it's not cheap, and you're limited to times when the track isn't rented out, which I imagine isn't very frequent.
Most of the groups that run there only charge about $300-400 a weekend, and that's for 2+ hours of track time. Tackdaze, PCA, BMWCCA, ACA, NASA, SCCA, etc.
