Ok so i drive a 2005 Jetta GLI and ive done some pretty nice performance mods to it, i haven't yet touched the suspension and now due to some recent events don't plan on it. Im currently living in southern California and am going to be soon moving to Alaska. I really do not wanna have to sell my car so im looking in to the option of taking the vehicle with me. Is there going to be any issues with this particular model and the way it sits stock and the snow? Also is me having an AEM CAI going to be an issue? Thanks please let me know because im stuck in a bind and have to make some quick decisions!

    List of mods-
    -AEM CAI
    -GIAC STG1
    -FORGE Turbo Inlet Pipe
    -Forge DV 007
    -Turbo Back exhaust
    -NGK plugs

    BTW shes an AUTO!

Not a knock on you, but a gli isn't too suitable for Alaska's Winters. It will get trashed unless you are very careful. I know people with VW's in Alaska, but they are extremely careful and don't usually drive them during the snow season

having CAI In the snow cant be a good thing.

get a short ram. the AFE kit on ECS is really nice, i switched from CAI to it and have been pleased with the results.

If you decide to take it to AK, might want to think about getting a good winter wheel/tire package. Better traction vs performance/summer tires plus it'll keep from ruining those RC's!

If I lived in Alaska (sometimes I feel like I'm in southern Alaska) I wouldn't own a GLI or any VW for that matter.

I really don't think it'll be that big of a deal. Throw some snow tires/wheels on it and leave the stock suspension on it. If the snow gets too bad, call in sick to work My GLI went great through Chicago winters with snow tires on it. Drove through 12" snow drifts without an issue lol.

Honestly I'd sell it, move to something AWD or even a truck or SUV. Driving around in the snow can either be a blast or horrible. I drove my 20th for a couple weeks in a Minnesota winter and it was horrible. I'd sell it, buy something awd to enjoy the alaskan winters with.

Yea I might just end up leaving her down on Cali at my parents house. They have a massive garage and it wouldn't be a problem. I'm looking for a truck up there tho. I should of probably gotten a truck to start with due to the face that I'm 6'5 lol! Thanks for the intel on everything I don't wanna beat it up bringing it to Alaska.

we had a bad snow storm two years ago and the car didnt drive that great, mine is also and auto and it did horrible on any hill and its just spun out a one trip to the store ripped the axle boot and ruined the joint. You would also have to worry about the dips on any road thats not plowed because you have that extra low lip..

Sell it and get an AWD A4 or TT. Same all around 'niceness' of a GLI but more traction. If you get 00-05 then you can even keep the 1.8t!

I used to daily drive an Audi A4 and it was nice but not that much.of a difference to be honest.
I now drive a 2004.5 GLI and this past winter was my first in it. No problems and no complaints.
I drive mostly within the city but sometimes I head out to the mountains etc...
I have winter tires for the GLI and it has ESP. Both help for sure.
The winters here can be pretty harsh with lots of snow and low low temps.

Keep it if you like it!
