Has anyone made their own fiberglass intake before? I was thinking about making one for myself but was not sure if the heat of the engine bay will cause problems. I've only made speaker enclosures with glass so I don't know if there are special products for that type of environment.

Kevlar and Carbon hold up well, I don't see why a glass one wouldn't?

I thought carbon uses a different resin? The fabric itself shouldn't matter I wouldn't think.

You should not have any issues, to be safe verify the safe operating temp of the resin you want to use. There is some high heat resistant resin if you want to go bulletproof.

this will give you the carbon look but for the price of fiber glass

Well I don't think I'll have 141+ mph wind to keep my FG cool. But if you haven't had an issue with it distorting on that ginormous turbo I think I should be fine.

I was going to ask why you didn't make a cast of the original light then I seen your site with the DIY's. Very nice car's!

Kevlar doesn't hold up well to heat. It starts to loose its strength over each heat cycle.
    It's not always about "racekar"...

On my Corrado I just modified my lens and cut a 4 inch hole and filled it with fiberglass and smoothed with bondo and looks real clean. I also did some bondo / resin , fiberglass stuff.

First I cut out (out of card board) a ring and laid some mesh around the ring. Then soaked it in resin. I added some fiber glass and bondo primer and paint. Then to almost finish it I put screen over the ring. This will help me from sucking up some rocks or large debris. Here's some pics

I have a 4 inch pipe leading up to a 4 inch pipe molded into the lens.
