Like the title says, I'm looking to spend around 3k on a B5 a4 with 5spd, 1.8t quattro. Some work needed is OK, I would just prefer that it wasn't a blown engine.

Thanks for the replies this far, the Long Island car is a wee bit further than I'd like to travel. So far, the India Red A4 Is the best Ive heard of. Howver, I won't be buying until early may now as the finances need to recover a bit...

I might be looking to sell around that time. I have a '00 1.8TQ w/ manual. Santorin blue / ecru interior (pretty rare) and sport, cold weather, and convenience packages. It needs a little bit of work, but the engine runs great and the interior is in relatively good shape. The body is in excellent shape - no rust at all. It has a lot of miles on it (232k). I drive it 130 miles a day to work and back and that's it. The last 65k are strictly highway miles. It needs new front shocks and a rear wheel bearing or two, but other than that it's mechanically sound. Timing belt was done at 190K. My dad ordered it new in 2000 and I bought it from him about 6 years ago, so we have all of the records for it.
