Welcome to the 1st Annual, Rallye 542: European Car Cruise, brought to you by Death By VW!

The proceeds of the raffle will go to the Whatcom Humane Society, so bring your pets!

The route up to Mount Baker is an amazing cruise, on an open highway 542(Mt. Baker Hwy)! Once you start climbing the mountain, all the way up to 4,000 feet, it gets into some windy, twisty, switch back roads, and is an absolute blast to drive!

Do not worry about snow, In four years that I have been doing Mount Baker cruises, even as early as may 15th, snow has never been an issue!


We will meet at Value Village in Bellingham: 150 E Bellis Fair Pkwy, Bellingham WA, 98226
Meet time: 9:30am
Driver meeting: 10:15am
Depart: 10:30
Arrive @ destination: 12:00pm

The most important thing about this, is that we represent the VW community, DO NOT DRIVE LIKE A JACKASS, you will not be welcome at future events if you a deemed a jackass! Its not a race to the top of the mountain (although I find it difficult not to drive fast once I start climbing the mountain!) please try to keep it at a reasonable speed!

If you've never driven east out the 542 to the top of Mount Baker Ski Area, you are in for a treat! This road is the star of countless car commercials, and was also considered for the U.S. Rallye circuit. The drive is amazing on so many levels.

Thats no reason to miss a great cruise! I have driven all the way to Federal Way, just to meet with a group, then drive another 100 miles, and then drive all the way back to Bellingham! Thats not even as good of a cruise as 542, its all freeway, kinda boring to drive!

People think it is too far to drive from lynwood to bellingham for a cruise...didnt think too many people would be driving to vegas!

i know of quite a few people taking the trip down actually. I would be too if I didnt already have plans to drive down to waterwerks on the green. cant afford to take two big trips

P.S. The first time a once-a-year event happens, it's called Inaugural. The second time it occurs is when it becomes Annual.

The wife and I will make it up. We always miss Bellingham now we're in Kingston. Hardest part about the drive is buying wine for her at Mt. Baker vineyard on the way back from Baker.

Spread the word folks, we are really starting to line things up for the cruise. We are getting food lined up at the summit for the cruisers grind on. There are gonna be some photographers running around, so shine those beauties. We've got Rallye 542 shirts and stickers in the making and will also have Death By VW swag available too.

Just noticed the meet location. The Guide might be a pain to get everyone out and about. How about some place on Sunset? I was going to suggest K-Mart since nobody parks there, but getting out onto the main drag is a pain from there. Just a thought...

Hey Ivan, raffle tickets will be selling at the meet location, and once we get up to the mountain!

We have some nice hotels up here, a couple that are less then a mile from our meeting spot! Make a weekend out of it!
