So I've decided to let go of my 2011 A3 TDI and move into a new Passat. My family is growing and just need a bit more space.

Anyone ever sold a lease out before? I've only been in it for a little over a year. Love, love the car but it's becoming too tight. Considering posting it up on Craigslist or lease trader.com

Unless of course someone on here may be interested?

    Thanks all,

    Andy

I had a friend who went through this not too long ago.

The bank will not let anyone actually "take over" the lease. You need to just post it as "For Sale". Someone will have to actually get a loan for the amount you owe on it, then that loan, will pay off your loan.... if that makes sense.

Another possibility is including the buyout of your lease as part of the Passat deal. It's like being upside down in a vehicle and rolling that into a new buy. I had to do this once when I had to get out of a vehicle.

Yeah that makes sense. I think this will be the route I have to go. I might have to take a bit of a loss though. Hopefully I can break even and do it straight across.

I looked into this but the dealer only wanted to give me a portion of my payoff. It would have been $8000 added to cost of the Passat to cover the A3 trade-in. Ugh.

Thanks for the replies! I appreciate the advice.

    Solution:

    1) Remove hatch area cover
    2) Place bean bag in the hatch space
    3) Have children sit in hatch

You just converted a 5 seater into a 7 seater! Problem solved. /thread

Thanks all for the replies! Well I pulled the trigger on the Passat. I went to a completely different dealer who found one in Platinum with everything I wanted on it. Traded in the A3 for it. This dealer was able to come closer to my payoff but I did take a little hit. In the end though I will be paying less for this car than I would have if I kept the Audi (even with the negative equity on it) so I'm really happy with it. I was enrolled in the VW Friends and Family plan so paid below invoice for the car too!

I miss the sporty A3 still but loving the room in the Passat. The TDI is strong with this one too (yes, Star Wars haha!)

Anyway, see you on the other side! The next car I think will be my S4 on a German delivery. ;-)
