So we had the ignition switch changed a few years ago because it blew and nothing worked lights blinkers ect.. and now this past year it started going off at random times when I am driving. they work fine but when I am not using them they will go off for no reason. they dont flash or anything just make the sound. I replaced the Hazard switch with a new one from a dealer and it still made the sound. If i push and hold the button down part way it will stop but then my blinkers dont work anymore. any suggestions? I searched the web but could not find any thing useful.

electronics contact cleaner buy some and spray it in the steering column where the turn signal stalk is. go through each position of the turn signal.

p.s. this is like mk4 101 please look around you'll find your answers quicker that way.

Mine was doing that for years after the dealer told me to replace the turn signal stalk and I found out it was like $100. Then I finally tried spraying some WD-40 in there last weekend and it finally stopped.

unfortunately the wd 40 did not work. so ill have to try some of the cleaner stuff. i will more than likely just take it to a VW dealer in Nuremberg next time i am out in the part of the state. I have already had the Blinker switch replaced once tho. maybe the Germans know better than the Americans do state side lol

not to mention finding a performance shop in the area is very hard.

    Ugh - I wouldn't spray WD40 on electrical stuff.

What do you mean by "blinker switch" - are you talking about the hazard switch?

Yeah the sound is coming from the hazard switch area, but it stops when they are pushed or the blinkers are engaged. i had the blinker switch replaced once and the hazards switch i put two new ones and it still does it. so idk. ill upload a video in a few mins of what it does..

Try the WD-40 again, I sprayed a ****load in there... You have to move the stalk and spray it in from every different angle and move it around as much as possible to get it to clean the contacts off

My mk4 had a recall for the hazard switch. Dunno the problems it caused as I didn't have any; it was replaced free of charge, regardless, but just an FYI.

You're spraying WD-40 into the electrical components in your car and causing them to smoke??? Why are you doing that???

I don't recall saying anything about spraying WD-40 into electrical components. I was posting in a thread that happened to deal with the same problem I was having(clicking noise in steering column)
