Thread: What the heck is this?

  1. 03-21-2012 08:50 PM #1
There apparently were two wires leading into this thing. It was clearly a hack wiring job at one time that didn't stand the test of time. I asked my mechanic friend what it was and he said it doesn't seem to be effecting the car so who cares.

Someone tried to cap off that port and got creative!

I didn't realize there was a shift light on this car. Man I really want to hook this up so I can be told I'm not shifting right all the time.

I guess it might be better if I pulled it off and capped the vacuum line properly. Or I could just leave it.

My Jeep has one and I hate it. Wish I knew where it was so I could disconnect it.

Nope, on 87-89 it is a switch for cold running enrichment at idle. It is an almost identical switch to the upshift indicator.

See the red, white and brown wires on the throttle body? follow them down and you'll find the plug that goes to the switch.

I Agree. That is part number 171919825B.
Interrupts cold-running enrichment above idle on the (CIS) 1988-1989. Called the "cold-running enrichment vacuum switch". The one end is suppose to have that cap on it.

Thanks I figured it wasn't the shift light thing, since this car doesn't have one. This could explain why it is difficult start every odd day or so.
