Since it's new, this is a great time to put on paint shield film, including film for your headlights.

I like the mud flaps. Mud flaps are good to put on when the car is new, though some just don't like the look.

You should also get something to cover the top of your rear bumper under the hatch opening, as this area will scratch.

Any suggestions on a good quality DIY kit for the front end. My tint guy wanted like $500

I can put that on myself.

Good luck with that. It's not as easy as you think.

Most of the cost is the film.

If you called my shop for a price I would quote you 620 + tax Not including Lights.

As long as the guy has experience (and you can see it), that's a good price. My kit was $300 and I installed it myself. Being a perfectionist, it took most of the day and I was sore as hell that night but it was a good learning experience. Did our Tiguan the next weekend.

Great idea. Ordered the parts since I am doing the fogs as well.

  11. 03-31-2012 01:30 AM #11
OK..... Just made my order with ED. Got me a set of R20's coming.

So ill be taking off the bumper and putting on fogs and replacing my headlights. A little scared about all the horror stories about bulb out lights. Ill work it out.

    Need some help though.

I want to get rid of some of this wheel gap. Its my daily driver. So I think just the springs is the way to go. But what else will i need. Other than springs. I hear about these sport suspension kits from VW & ECS. What is all this about?

Also How Low is too low to go on Stock shocks? To keep the ride quality decent.
    Looking at these 2 options.

H&R Sport Spring Set ---- Avg low 1.5"F & 1.4"R (The lower the better)

    Eibach Pro-Kit Spring Set ---- Avg low 1.0"F & 1.2"R.

I've learned how to do paint shield, too. It's much easier to put it on with my teen-aged son as a helper, though.

I get my paintshield from Steve at Chipgard. (sales@chipgard.com) Small operation, but very responsive. (He's made me extra pieces like headlight covers when I've needed them.) Nice prices, too. I'm doing my '09 JSW with a full kit for about $275. (Hood, fenders, side mirrors, headlamps, front bumper, A pillars, leading edge of the roof, door cups and the top of the back bumper)

He doesn't have a website that I know of, but I've paid with PayPal and everything has worked out well. I've placed like five orders from him for various parts and cars. Everything came precisely cut and in a reasonable amount of time.

If you decide not to do your own... $500 would be pretty cheap for work done by a shop in the DC area.

I'm very glad that I have paintshield on the car. It's not very noticeable on my Reflex Silver JSW, but it's done its job well.

those aren't OEM. OEM xenons are bi-xenon with a single projector. These are two projectors (one high and one low beam).. look really nice too, especially as a drop-in light.

As rootrider said, these are not OEM, but they are really nice. People have been having issues with coding on them, but I absolutely love the look of mine. You can get them through Ed: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...om-Ed-are-Back

nightshades is okay, but if you want a better look, try getting clear and adding a pigment such as detailed black to the paint. Then you spray coats till the right darkness, looks oem and is stronger than nighshade (which will fade in time)

not a fan of black out tails but looks good on your car...

out of curiosity, wondering why you went with the nightshades instead of perhaps wrapping it with film?

I tried to have them tinted with film... There is a curve in the taillight....
My tint guy said he couldnt do it and make it look perfect.

So I had no choice but to DIY.

How will they fade if I have a bunch of automotive clear over it?

the raised point in the rear taillights only took the help of a hair dryer to spread out the laminx. The clear coat should protect the nightshades, but i haven't had much success with it in the past even with lots of "automotive" clear coat. Most rattle can clear doesn't harden enough to be too effective. Thats my 2cents though.....
I love how the front end is looking, making me regret getting the mk5 front end!
