Saw this posted on the dealer inventory management website:
MARCH ANNOUNCEMENTS:
This is the LAST month for MY12 Ordering for all vehicles except Passat and Routan. Next month will be the first MY13 orders for most carlines.
I just got off the phone with someone at VW distribution support and he confirmed to me, after checking with the actual head of logistics and distribution, that any sold order placed by tomorrow will be a MY12 R but after that they will be MY13 and that there is currently no planned end of production for the R.
He also told me that there are no planned changes to the MY13 R from the 12, other than the model year designation.

MY13's won't begin to show up until July, so there is still a few more months of MY12 production to land.
#4
This is just a logistic issue. They are preventing the usual dropping prices of 2012 models in the fall.

According to Jay Prichert at askavwsalesguy.com, there will NOT be a 2013 Golf R. I don't think we really know which salesman is right and which is wrong, but without more info, I wouldn't bet the house on a 2013 Golf R.
As of the end of February, there were 466 R's sold in the U.S.

I did not speak to a salesperson at a dealership, I spoke directly with someone at VW distribution, who had just spoken directly with the head of distribution for VWoA and what I posted came straight from the VW dealer distribution website. Believe what you like.
I don't mean to come off harsh, but, unlike many people on internet forums, I make it a point to try not to post things that are not facts.

Not harsh at all. My fault for not reading your post more carefully.
I don't necessarily believe the site that says there will not be a 2013 model - just trying to convey that there is conflicting information out there. Obviously, your source should be far more reliable and aware of what is really going on.![]()

from the beginning the plan was to go into 2013. things became a little hazey as we moved forward because all the focus was on the Passat and Beetle.
the Golf R originally showed up in the order system as a 2103 and the very first orders were 2013, VW shifted it to 2012 in November I believe.
This is Legit info.
HOWEVER!. No 2013 Golf R in the Order system as of yet.

From the Left Hand News article on the R
Although pricey, we doubt any of the 5,000 Golf Rs VW plans to import over the 2012 and 2013 model years will have any issues finding a home.
#15
Great now just hurry up and get my R in eta is 6-27 urggggg lol
Just do it life is short.

Eh Jamie should chime in here, It's interesting to see that they will continue production given the history with past R32's.
#17
I just had to order my R on Wednesday. Should I have waited two days ?
#18
This is exactly why they would continue production. I think the current R overcomes some of the problems behind the 2008 sales problems. The economy is picking up, it has a manual, and it is available with 4 doors. Anyhow, they will produce the same number of cars but roll them out over a longer period of time. If production were completed by the summer as would happen with 2012 models, there would be a glut at dealerships. This designation probably means production will continue at its slow current pace through the end of the year. Essentially, they have the freedom to slow down production depending on demand. As I recall, production of US R's was hampered because of parts limitations and worldwide demand. This move fixes that concern as well.

VeeDubDriver - did the contact you spoke with confirm or deny that they will in fact eventually build 5000 units over the 2 model years - or perhaps they will build more or less?
#20
#21
That's my belief as well. Wonder if they just plan to keep building ~300 a month until the MK7 takes over the assembly line, or they start to sit around on dealer lots.
#22
I suspect that they are only building them as dealers order them, either as sold orders or spec orders. If dealers stopped ordering them then they would probably stop building them for the US market.
#23
That's a frightening thought. My lease is up in June and I'll probably lease again. If the lease figures don't get better, I'm not sure what I'll do. Just bought a new house so while I *could* put $20k down and purchase, I'm not sure that I want to. And I also done want a +$600 car payment.![]()
#24
I know how you feel. My payment cap is $500/mo. To buy it at 1.9% interest, I would have to put down $8000 to get the payment that low, and I really don't want that kind of cash tied up in a depreciating asset.
I am going to start thinking of plan B, which might be the Caddy ATS. Nothing else out there really lights my fire right now.

So are there any MY2013 Golf Rs in the system yet?

Think of it this way, what are you getting on your risk-free investments? 0.25%? We have a bank savings returning 1.7%, and some government ibonds returning about 3%, but anything higher than that is pretty high risk. So 1.9% is a pretty good return.
I think the Cadillac ATS is going to be expensive, especially the one we really want, the ATS-V.![]()

Not yet. Ill make a new thread when it is in the system. as previously stated. 5000 is assumed but never stated. as all the Golf/GTI offerings are slow to populate the oder guide i suspect the MKVII hitting early like January or March of 2013 so the 1500-2000 Rs that may end up being built could be the whole deal. I dunno guys im trying to get more info from on high but im getting resistance because i dont think the big wigs even know what they are gonna do.
