How attached are you to "knewbug" and how comfortable are you with someone else driving it to and from the testing site? If you are comfortable with someone else driving it for a little bit, then it sounds like a good thing to do and help VW out. Plus "knewbug" will be immortalized in VW research books

The test site is about 2 miles from where I live, I have driven by there many times before I got KNEWBUG to see what kind of BEETLES they had there. There is also a lot of Audis(R8s) and various types of VWs always there.

Not too shabby a deal, there. I can see the allure.

Personally, I'm too attached to my vehicles to let someone else drive it for a week or two. I'd even want to supervise the testing (yes, I'm one of those guys that stays and watches what mechanics do in the shop too). As a result, my price point would be much higher.

Hard to say. The work they are performing may benefit you and other owners in the future. I would also think due to the irregular nature of the work, they would be extra protective of your property. For me, it would boil down to would they place more miles on the car than the $250.00 would compensate me for. I would also guess that they calculated this in advance to make this $250 an incentive instead of a straight pay for use so the mileage load should be low.

As protective of my car as I am, I might be inclined to help if my car is only going to be two miles away. The only problem I have is if this just an emisions study, they could just use new cars and run up the mileage up to the point they need and do the study. Once they are done, they could just sell the cars as used to dealers. It's just as easy for them to do as locating owners and offering incentives to participate.

I'd do it if they gave me an R8 to drive.

I would do it if I could drive the car to the facility and watch the testing being performed. Otherwise...I'd pass.
