So, I bought this car just before december last year. I've always had 2 door golf's and have never had or wanted a 4 door golf before and was kinda against it, but I couldn't resist it for the price, condition, and insurance savings
When I got it:
I haven't done a whole lot too it since. When I first got it I put all new brake lines in it, and looped the power steering due to a blown line. I also replaced a blown front wheel bearing, and have since painted the centre of the grille black.
I deleted the spoiler because I don't care for the spoiler's on Golf's. I have the plug to delete which will be done soon.
Since a stock mk3 golf gets bland quick, I got bored and decided to make a few purchases that need to still be installed yet. Since the weather is clearing up, I should be able to get it in summer mode in a few weeks.
-CXracing Coils
-Diamond Racing Steelies 15x8
-shifter bushing kit
-all new strut bushings f/r with all new hardware, just in case
-wiper delete plug
N.O.S. Toyo T1-R 195/45's - not sure if they are staying or not yet
terrible dirty car test fit pic of the rears, NOTE: I only took a pic of the rear b/c it was still on stock suspension, so I had two of my buddies sit in the hatch
saggy blown rear suspension = reverse rake
more to come....

hopefully maybe sometime this summer i can find a clean golf that actually has a floor in it, then maybe id build it

thanks for nothing
thanks, this is my second MK3, and my 6th VW
Pretty rare to find. I had to repair a few holes in the floor on this one as well. It's pretty much a given that you'll have to fix the floor and rockers on a MK3.![]()

i love my gti vr, this one is my daily though, if I had my way, I'd swap a tdi into it.
So, I was playing around with my coils last night, trying to get them setup somewhat. I spun the top nut down, and spun the collars up the spring sits nice and tight.
yeah i know, i need a camera..
I'm waiting on parts at the moment. I ordered all new strut bushings, bearings, and hardware the other day. I'll be leaving school and going home for easter, so I can pick up the tools I'll need, my Bentley manual, as well as a fender roller, my wiper delete, and shifter bushing kit.
Does anyone have any advice/input on adjusting the shifter? My car absolutely HATES going into first gear. Once I install the shifter bushing kit, I want to adjust it, to fix this problem![]()

that's not even that expensive, I might have to order that soon. When you get to a light, and your car won't go in first, it gets lame quick.

mind sharing some info as to how you set them up, and what dampening levels you used? How low do you have yours set? I plan on getting it pretty low..

Here's a pic for reference im at 21 ftg maybe a little less on 16s.
I didn't even touch the dampening it's still at 16 and it rides perfectly at this height. I have about a half an inch of threads left. Set up the strut so that if it is lowered all the way its basically sitting on tire.
Once I have a frame notch and my pan is lifted I plan on changing the dampening to 12 for a even better ride. Hope this helps.

I work at the local vw/audi dealership and so I placed a large order for all new strut bushings/bearings and a VR6 Waterpump pulley, and a shorter belt.
So, today I tore it apart, and deleted the ac, and finished my PS delete. I already had the power steering looped, but left the pump in until I had the time/parts to do the rest. My power steering pump was long blown, and making a racket. I deleted the pump and the a/c as well as all the ac lines.
I have to say, after the delete, I absolutely love it! Car revs up muuch quicker. Makes for a fun drive when it's wet outI think I might have to buy a chip and an intake now too..
I also picked up a new aluminum low floor jack wich only weighs 30lbs. It will come in handy when I do the coilover install after easter. I also picked up a normal 3 ton jack, jackstands, and wheelchalks for $39.99, gotta love Canadian Tire

So, after the ac/ps delete I am noticing a bit of a bumpy idle when cold, and many times when doing a downshift from 3->2 or from 2->1 The revs will just plummet, and has even caused the car to stall out a couple times. It's better when warm, but still happens on occasion.
I have a check-engine light on, and I plan to get it scanned this week. I'm almost positive I have a plug from the ac that was left unplugged after the delete and might be throwing the code, but I can't see how that'd affect the idle/stability...
If the scan doesn't bring a resolution I plan to do:
-clean tb
-check the distributor/ignition wires/plugs (plug wires replaced in the winter)
-might be a vacuum leak, but that is always a pain to diagnose...
Any advice would be much appreciated!

^ So, I fgured out my issue, turned out to be an unplugged MAF
Went home this weekend, and I was finally able to delete my rear wiper, and change out my antennae. I picked up all my tools and the air compressor in prep for some future work.
This weekend I'll be able to do my coilover install, hopefully I can do my shifter rebuild kit at the same time. If anyone has any input or a DIY on the shifter rebuild and some tips on how to make it go smoothly, please let me know![]()

Not sure if anyone's reading this, but I installed the coilovers this weekend.
Realized as I was finishing up, that I need a new balljoint (already have it) and tie rod end, on the right side. Camber up front needs to be adjusted, and the fenders where rolled with a bat for now, will be rolled properly soon.

What backspacing do you have on the front? I have a set 15x8 with a 5" backspace. Way too much poke for up front. Not too bad on back. Thanks. Looks sweet. I have 95 red 4 door golf myself.

They are pretty good. I have the rears spun all the way into the bases though. For how low I have it set, it rides nice. I have it set pretty stiff, so it's kindof bouncy. Great $600 investment though!
I have a 5" backspace up front, that's et13. If you go somewhat low, and use the stock camber, it'll fit fine. Rear is 4.5" backspace or et0.
Some more pics with a friends cr-z.
Don't mind the missing bumper reflector, broke it taking it off the other dayI'll have a new one in soon!
