I want to finally get a boost guage. I am leaning towards the AWE vent guage, but don't like the look of the slot cut outs. And I want a guage that has a black-out when off. Any ideas on mounts or guages? Can you just buy the AWE vent pod, without the guage?

Get the OSIR vent mount - then you can put in any guage you want. I got mine from parts4euro.com

Never seen a DFI in PSI unit. One with a 52mm would be a perfect replacement for my current Newsouth.

I also have the Newsouth mount and Indiglo gauge. Doesn't match the colors since it's blue but it's a soft blue which I like at night. Doesn't black out (so you would need something that is fully backlit or digital) but it's all that noticeable sitting anyway. Gauge is mechanical.
My only complaint is when it was installed, I didn't mention where to cut through the steering column cover (the cloth over the actual column) so it's dead in the middle which is where the mount is.. I would have routed the wires somewhere else. Doing a vent pod with a spare vent means not hacking anything up that could be visible later. But if you want to quickly remove the gauge/mount for some reason this one is perfect for that. I will most likely replace the gauge at some point for a better match.

I also need to decide on a mount for the guage I won from tp's contest.. I kinda like the vent mount the best.

Do you lose all air flow through the vent or can some still get around the gauge? This is the only one that I kind of like, but I like my heat/A/C more than I like the look of that mounting. I don't like column covers because they block out the cluster. I'd love to add a small LED strip inside the cluster and have the LEDs light sequentially as boost increases, but I'll never do it. But it would be the ideal gauge for me.

Thanks, I did not use any vent gauge holder, when I took out the vent there were 2 small holes on the outer edge and I just put the 52mm gauge in found some small screws that can go inside the holes and screwed the screws against the gauge. The screws are tight against the gauge and it holds it in with out moving. When you take out your vent you will see what I am talking about, their is some small marks on the outside of my gauge, but that's because the screws are hitting it to hold it in. I did not do any drilling or anything to make the holes in the vent as they were already there.
As for the air, there is a little bit of air that comes out around the edges where you can see the open space. I followed part of the AWE instructions for their gauge and drilled a hole on the side of the gauge to feed the wires through, so the gauge does not loose the opening and closing functionality. I usually close the vent so more air comes out of the other vents.

Sort of a bad picture, but $38 shipped
Edit: I know this is an A3 topic, just giving a gauge suggestion. Gauge is from glowshift, 52 mm vacuum/boost and 7 color display (decently oem looking red) and there's a 10% off coupon code going until June 15th: JUNE12

I started with a cyberdine boost gauge kit, I unsoldered the LEDs and used ribbon cable to remote them from the board, hot glued the leds and a black backing plate to the rear of a red lense and mounted it all to the frame around the biz card holder.
unfortunately the cyberdine gauge died and the model was no longer made. I found another made by GlowShift which also came with the sensor, it has a cool startup test and was easier to mod as the LED was in a single assembly.
you will have to mount the sensor and tie in to a vaccumm tap, I happen to have the Forge DV kit so I had the tap especially for the gauge already there. to be safe I mounted the sensor inside (probably not as sensitive). it looks cool now.

Looks good. I have the same pod and gauge as this, though I never installed it, LOL.
Sucks that Podi doesn't make a dual pod for our cars and the only one available is the NSP single.I got my VEI gauge with a black ring though, and with voltmeter on the bottom instead of AFR. Still I wish I could have had two--would've gotten a mechanical boost gauge and then volts and something else on the VEI.
