Must be a manual. Ideally I want under 80k with the timing belt maint done. 1.8 or 3.0. Ideally closer to stock but dont mind a nice exhaust/stage 1. not picky with color avant would be a plus. I am in MN would have no problem flying out and driving home. a little picky amount the condition IM LOOKING for one thats been loved and kept clean so it needs to look like it.

thanks guise! it would be going to a great new home.

^ after our research, we wanted nothing to do with the 3.0 and sought out a 1.8t.

The HIDs have a known issue with the leveling motors so make sure that isn't an issue (expensive replacement motor).

The 1.8t is the known sludge issue so do the best you can to make sure there isn't nasty sludge in the motor (if good receipts on oil changes, that is ideal). In our case we don't have good oil change records other than the word of the seller so we will be dropping the oil pan to check for sludging and if present, change the oil pump after cleaning everything out but it ran fine so hopefully we are okay.

You are in the right price range though because everything we looked at was priced at $10,500 to $14k but there is a local one at $12,500 we felt too many issues to even look at given the price (red with cracked windshield and other issues)

^ even with only 90k miles, we are replacing a bunch-o-stuff (fuel filter this weekend for example) so ANY used USP you should really plan on basic stuff to do if you don't have receipts provided for it

haha right. i can afford a4 maintenence but i dont want to get into replacing random things just because they are old at 140+miles

^ if someone with 140k+ has really great maintenance records, I wouldn't shy away but I guess that might just be me... Our former 98 A4 b5 Quattro had 155k when we got it and 164k when we sold it over a year later and was in fantastic shape with a huge stack of receipts to go with it to the happy new owner (all in how you keep up on maintenance).. when looking at b5s at the time we bought ours, we saw really trashed ones with less than 60k miles that made our former 160k+ mile one seem like it had less than 60k miles.. <-- not even joking about that

...and then also watch out for rollback fraud too from shady people trying to hide the actual mileage

nice I worked at an Audi place when i was younger i saw a a6 with 300k on the odometer and it was pretty mint inside

found a decent one in CA he wants 14k, at 73k miles. It has some decent neuspeed mods and stage one as well as 2k stereo he said. But he said it has a slight "seal leak" that is insignificant..lol what is he talking about? and what would it cost me

^ I'd want specifics on exactly what seal is leaking. Is it a cam seal? Front Seal or rear main seal? Chain tensioner seal? Valve cover gasket seal? What? ...and keep in mind what one person calls insignificant might be very significant and expensive to fix!

I'm a bit more leery of significant 'stereo mods' myself when it comes to just about any car but especially german cars. I've seen the 'butcher' install jobs that are a wiring nightmare. And what else has been sliced up from stock on the car to fit all this stuff? A $2000 stereo system to me would be more of a strike against the car than a bonus to me in other words.

So taking the stereo out of the equation means $14k still seems a bit high IMHO. (especially if there is some sort of oil leak that needs to be addressed!) To me $12,500 for a very clean example with some mods is more in-line but if you love it and it is worth it to you, then by all means, go for it!

wheres the leak - thats what i asked. The pricy stereo is just an alpine headunit and expensive amp with sub i think.

    the mod list is

    GIAC FX
    Limo Tint
    Neuspeed Exhaust
    Neuspeed Extreme turbo inlet pipe
    Neuspeed Short Shifter
    Neuspeed Snub Mount
    Forge 007PA Diverter Valve
    Intrax springs
    Koni shocks
    OEM Blackout Grilles
    Bixenon Ecodes
    OEM B7 RS4 Swaybar

^ and how is that amp and sub tied into the car battery then would be my next concern... along with how it was routed (Are clips broken or anything cracked from that routing? Anything rattling now because of missed clips/broken clips?) <-- seen some rattle traps from poor routing/reinstall of panels from Best Buy or other crappy installs is the bottom line. I see some 18 year old who is going to do the stereo install at a Best Buy and I just cringe!!!

..and how were those E-code headlights installed? So I guess it did not have the factory Xenons then? I just get really leery of electrical modifications to an Audi or VW is all (based on prior bad experiences with used cars that is)

I'd rather pay $14k for a 100% factory stock unmessed with car if it was me (again, this might just be me of course)

The snub mount mod is the only mount I'd like/be happy about. I worry about how the exhaust was installed as well (anything vibrating or rubbing?) Something that modified I'd want to see and drive and inspect in person before buying is all. It might all be done right and you might have found a gem though (just keep in mind that everyone has different perceptions of 'clean mods or 'clean installs')

so the leak was actually moisture around a radiator coolant flange and he is getting it fixed for me and is getting an inspection. He also has full record from Ismotors in San Francicisco. Its seems to be a really nice buy. previous owner was an audi enthusiast

He wants 14k its at 73k miles with those upgrades and great condition except curb rash (san fran parker) im going to have a friend powder coat the wheels matte black for $300

What is a fair price for this

this is the 1st owners sale thread lol

    ^ tough call

I'd say if you can afford the $14k and it is worth it to you, go for it! I wouldn't, however, buy sight unseen because photos can hide too much (I made that mistake in the past). You are better off flying out to see it in person and make your own decision from there.

I've been in situations where I had a cashier's check made out only to find issues and then it became a case of how much money is lost on the airfare vs. fixing the undisclosed issues. Once I bought it and drove it home vs. another time just coming back home without the car (cost was too high to me to make it worth it). PLUS I learned my lesson about exact amount cashier's checks (make out for smaller amount and bring the rest in cash or just bring cash to begin with..)

As a seller I have never had a long-distance buyer displeased with what they bought and often heard 'better condition then you described'.. which is always a positive for me... better to have a happy buyer than one all pissed off ranting all over the internet -- so if your seller has previous positive feedback, that is a nice plus on your side as well

but now im somewhat debating just banking a a little more of a cushion and finding a b6 s4 with some warranty left for around 20k

Shipping is NOT cheap.. I was quoted $1220 to ship from LA to Chicago on an open trailer for a USP I was looking at just last year and $980 to ship from Phoenix to Chicago on a Mazda Miata (much smaller car) so shipping is not all that cheap either when you factor that into an equation

^ and be careful to do your research on shippers too.. I've heard a few horror stores about damaged in shipment, shipment delays and other 'hidden fee crap'

I had a Miata shipped from Dallas to Chicago on an open trailer for $500 and had some damage unfortunately (to the exhaust from bottoming out loading and a fender dented -- that I did NOT see right away because it was night when delivered) and trying to get a claim on it after delivery taken would have been impossible so I got what I paid for (cheap transit) and learned my lesson the hard way!

lol im looking at one thats cheaper and only 72k miles

  32. 04-11-2012 10:04 PM #32
    ($10000 negotiable) 2005 Audi A4 1.8T 6spd Quattro
    Sport Package (not USP)
    ~102K miles
Silver Exterior/Tan Interior with dark grey trim

Engine is solid and in great working condition
Castrol Full synthetic every 3-4K miles

    Maintenance:
    - rear main seal at ~65K miles
    - thermostat at ~65K miles
    - Timing Belt/Water Pump @ 80K miles
    - Coil packs replaced at ~60K miles
    - Valve Cover Gasket @ 60K

    Mods:
    - Gt71r Eliminator Turbo w/ 15K miles
    - Siemens 630cc injectors
    - Unitronics BT Tune
    - High Flow Exhaust Manifold
    - 034 High Flow Cat
    - APR Stealth Exhaust
    - FMIC
    - 007 Diverter Valve
    - Lowered on H&R Springs
    - HP2 Front Brake Setup

The Exterior I will rate as 6/10. The front bumper needs to be replaced. Its just showing wear from being taken off many times. A small dent in the rear right door. Clear coat is beginning to peel on fenders and a little on the rear bumper.

Interior is a 8/10. It's still the same as when i bought it.. Everything works, no issues at all. Pixels in the dash work, buttons have not peeled.

Needs a little work cosmetically. (still looks stunning! to me) if i had the cash i would do it, but i just cant at this time. But if you want a relatively fast and fun car then this is that.

With the extra $4K you would spend on other cars, you could use to put a USP or Oetty Body kit on this one, get a paint job..
