I began this topic under TDI...I am new here and did not see this DSG forum.

I plant to keep the TDi I am buying next week for 5 years and plan to drive about 30k miles a year. Is the DSG reliable enough for this leght of service?

Also, Vw recommend a DSG service every 40K miles - nearly $400.00. They replace the fluid, anything else? Seems like a fairly routine service for $400.00.

The durability of the DSG is also of interest to me. I think it's been around about 6 years, which is certainly sufficient to get some idea of a number of cars that have gone 100K.....150K, probably not so many. Trouble is, I don't know who -besides VW- is going to have the stats on DSG durability. And I don't know how one would get the info out of them.

If I get a DSG, I will plan on doing my own service. It's not that involved, and a savings of more than half can be realized. Using a search will reveal threads (and videos) on DIY DSG service.

I believe that VW fixed most of the problems with the DSG. Stock, you shouldn't have any problems assuming you do the regular maintenance.

Not sure about tuned, though I've heard of Stage 3+ cars having no issues.

Im running a blown 3.2 TT with DSG and 160k miles on the clock.
I have uprated some components due to the power im running but the box is solid.
The weak spot is the mechatronic unit, but there are repair companies popping up now, but the pain is getting it off the car to get it to them and refitting.
