Hey Michael,
I'm partial to Newport RI for a venue.

Hi you all! Any one on the North East willing to do something like this again? Doesn't have to be the same location although the beer was good.

Newport is very cool. Definitely do the mansion tours, including the Breakers. There is a great seaside path that's refreshing to walk along. If it's clear, I believe you can see Martha's Vineyard off the coast from there. I've been there twice for work, inspecting bridges for the Navy. Would love to get back for vacation in the summer for a weekend.
Cheers,
Andrew

I'll have to ask my wife about renting out the lawn at the breakers, she might have garden club that day and would be terribly upset if an an unruly Phaetonite performed a brake stand in her front yard
all kidding aside, Fort Adams has alot of parking area and it is on the north end of the famed Ocean Drive. There is also really nice public overlook parking on Ocean Drive; would be hit or miss I believe to secure 20 spots in a row. A caravan of us touting around the drive would be really neat.
September is a great time of year, tourists tend to clear out a bit then.

Hmmmmm..............could be a nice long weekend idea. I"ll run it by the boss.

We had this issue last year, overwhelming the group preferred June to any other month for some reason. It could be that September schools are back in session and everyone is no longer on vacation mode but works for me.
Here is a link to the pictures of last years GTG

I almost neglected the title of the post 'Spring 2012', sorry about that Michael.
May or June would be just fine with me. Count me in.
And I'm hoping someone will bring their VCDS; I've had the re-ocurring issue:
Indicator (turn signal) not working (but Hazards do work). i thought at first it was due to the extended parking light feature. this in conjunction with the intermittant ECS function, ABS light. I must admit when there is not a light on I feel that she is giving me the silent treatment.

Can a moderator change the title of this thread to New England GTG in June
Thanks,
Michael

ok...
I'm going to recommend the same location in CT as last year. I believe this was a good meeting place. Open space, food and beer. More importantly it was closer to the middle to attract the maximum amount of Phaetons. Most came from CT, MA, NH, NY, NJ and PA. We also have Montreal and RI and who knows where else.
I vote same location but this doesn't mean it's written in stone. Ideas welcome, Newport, RI is one. Please chime in with ideas.

Newfoundland, Canada if the dates line up with my trip to Ont, for my first grandchild's birth.

Newport can be great fun and the tour of the summer 'cottages' is interesting if one hasn't seen these impressive summer homes before - but - a Phaeton GTG is about the cars and their owners. Newport can be and usually is a zoo in the summer (I spent a lot of summer days in Newport (NY Yacht Club) years ago when I was more active in the sailing community).
I'm with Michael on this one. Last years location is an easier destination for the majority of Phaeton owners likely to attend and while the location isn't as elegant as the lawns of the Breakers everyone had a great time. A certain VCDS got a pretty good workout that afternoon. As mentioned earlier, the food and beer was very tasty. It was also a great deal less costly than anything in Newport. Count me in.

The Americas Cup trials are taking place in Newport this June as well so that will add to the nuttiness. My business is right on Bellevue so I get my fill!
Ron - I'm also an active sailboat racer, coached at Newport YC and frequented New York YC for their sponsored races (i have a B32 that we still race every week out of Wickford).
I'm IN for CT, Looking Forward to it! Keep me posted.

June in Newport is going to be busy with the AC 45's coming to play. There will be a 1000' ship that will be offloading everything needed to put on the races in Jamestown. Little things like all the TV stuff (more camera equipment than used at the Superbowl), the boats and all their parts in their containers, support craft and so on. Should be fun trying to get into town at times. This showdown isn't the actual America's cup. That's still down the road a bit.
Hey Greg, you've got one of those "comfy" boats that you can sit in. My last 15 years of sailing has been on multihulls hanging off a wire
. My old club in Rowayton won and defended the 'Little America's Cup' three years in a row many years ago. The AC 45's Newport will be seeing in June trying to qualify for a shot at the America"s Cup, are big versions of our old 'Little America's Cup' C Class boats that developed the wing sail (I still sail on a C Class that won the LAC). Wait 'till you see the actual America's Cup boats
. They're much larger and faster then the AC 45's that will be in Newport (think of 40+ mph, 70' catamarans
). I might have to fly out to San Francisco to watch the America's Cup if it doesn't get tangled up in legal nonesence like the last race
.

Im in date permitting. Last years venue was great since they have a beer garden, served German food, had a huge lawn for parking and actually encouraged us to come back. Thanks for taking the lead again.

Hey Ron, look me up if you end up coming to Newport to check out the multihulls.
Looking forward to the GTG, so where in CT is the happening?

I'll do that. As for the location and name of the place we used for the GTG last year (can't remember the name?) Michael will need to chime in. I still owe him a beer

It was at the Old Heidelberg Restaurant at 55 Stony Hill Rd, Bethel, CT 06801.
It would be fun to go back there.

Thanks Victor,
How about June 2nd and if it rains June 9th? We don't need to confirm a date with the location, I just want to advise them out of courtesy. Then it's up to us to show up

Based on feedback and if Victor brings both his W12 we have 10 cars so far. This includes those that PMed me. Not bad considering it's still early in the game.

Schedule permitting, we are in.
Last year was great!

Hi,
The place will be the same as last year, http://www.restaurantheidelberg.com/
The address is 55 Stony Hill Road (Rt. 6) Bethel, CT 06801 which is right off I-84
I will be there from noon onward. Most started to show around 1PM and some stayed pass 7PM, the bulk were there between 2 and 4 if recall correctly. It's a little difficult to make everyone show up at the same time given the driving distances for some but if I had to pick a time lets make an afternoon out of it. (1PM to 3PM) as official meeting times and we stay as long as needed.
The target date is for June 2nd. If the weather does not cooperate then June 9th, both dates being a Saturday. It would appear that we have between 10 and 12 cars so far, plenty for a good time.

Hi,
After last year's performance (I arrived late and with the wrong car), I do plan to attend this year!

The Heidelberg restaurant has been advised and are looking forward to our coming back this June. We will be able to park the Phaetons on the lawn as we did before.
Please check this thread on June 1st if the weather will cooperate for a GTG on June 2nd. If it looks like rain we obviously won't do it and try the following Saturday.
Hope everyone can make it.

Two more weeks! Was at the location last week for lunch and the lawn was pristine and the beer selection enormous. Not to mention June 2 or any other day is good for beer outdoors, had a couple HB Dunkel's and it was awesome as is should be. You can familiarize yourself at http://www.restaurantheidelberg.com/html/aboutus.html
We do have some new owners so we should have a larger showing this year![]()

I hope to make it again this year. It looks like I'll be at Monticello Motor Club that day for a ride in the new F1 three-seater (!). Depending on 1) when that happens, 2) when I'm done, 3) whether my wife and/or buddy who comes with me is into the Phaeton gathering, and 4) whether my mother-in-law can watch our girls for the day, we may just make an epic circuit out of it: Lehigh Valley to Monticello to Bethel to Lehigh Valley. Works for me! At any rate, count me as a maybe.
