Mods, if this is better suited in computers, feel free to move.. I think HT would be a better fit myself..

Anyways. Just picked up a new Samsung BluRay player which supports connections to DLNA servers.

I have put together a quick TVMOBili server to test and it works fairly well, but I'm curious if anyone has any better recommendations.

Looking for something which will allow me to sort my videos into categories (kids, movies, tvshows, etc) and support sub folders as well for seasons of shows, etc.

Server must be compatible with ubuntu as that is the machine it will need to be run from.

    Whatcha recommend?

What about a NAS? I have my DLNA NAS hosting all our movies and music on it. We use it for everything, including all my work docs so I can access it online when I'm not home.

Nas would work, but I've already got a large Linux file/web/samba/FTP/blog server with tons of space. Don't really want another box to maintain.

I guess I don't understand. There is nothing to maintain and it is where everything would reside for your use. Oh well, they work great- I guess I don't get what you are after.

replace maintain with buy. My file server that I have is already stacked with harddrives and is running other services. It is essentially a NAS which also does other things. Adding a NAS would be redundant, and cost money. Since I already have a box which can do everything a NAS can, adding one serves no real purpose.

The question i have is what server software do most people install onto the NAS to allow the DLNA players to connect to it. (the same software can be used on a NAS as on a file server)....
