Happy with treg overall, but there some things that I really miss.
My 08 GTI's stereo sounds much better than my 2011 Treg's (lux) stereo sound wise (same source material) and additionally, its a real PITA to have to go through so many screens to adjust the treble/bass, fader/balance; I am constantly tweaking it on the GTI because each song is recorded differently... but leaving the screen of the treg on sound setup means no access to other features of the display. If anything they should have programmed a direct soft-button....
So, long story short, what is a decent solution, without costing an arm and a leg, to:
1) improve the sound quality of the treg's to be on par or better than the GTI's?
2) have the ability to directly manipulate the treble/mid/bass without having to go through touch screens
arm & leg = > $1000

I agree with you OP, i just switched to the treg from an '06 gti. the treg sounds better than the gti when the volume is turned up halfway, but it is nowhere near as good as it should be. clubtouareg.com has a thread detailing upgrade options, and similar complaints on sound quality.
As for adj treble and base, i dont think that there can be an easier/more efficient way unless you swap the HU...which would be a poor choice because so much is integrated into the system

was thinking of adding a small manual 4 band eq, maybe in the place where the ashtray sits

that would be interesting. if you ever do it pm me or post pics and review it
