Final test of the intake. Installed the high-flow filter provided with the Carbonio intake in place of stock. More improvement, but there is still a slight bit of restriction:
I'm not worried about it....I'm guessing maybe 3-5hp tops. Once I get my hands on a VWR intake, I will repeat the test to see if the restriction goes to zero. Remember that restriction is only part of the equation. You can remove your filter box completely, have zero restriction, but have less power(engine sucking all of the hot air it wants from the engine bay). I am gathering the MAF and IAT logs now to see if we are reducing restriction AND reducing air inlet temps. That's the golden combination(while maintaining adequate filtration of course!).![]()

You should get with other companies and see if they will give or lend you their own intake systems to you for "independent study" type claims and comparisons. I would LOVE to see the difference between the WINtake and the VWR Intake, to see if the cost would be worth it.
Another thing I'm wondering about are the MAF plots, like which provides the smoother graph which I think would assume to mean a less turbulent flow.

Companies don't typically like doing things like this as it always puts all but one in bad light. I think you'd have a better shot at local members loaning parts. Either way, it'd be nice. I'd be especially interested in results from the HAI (hot air intakes) out there like the EVO that aren't fully sealed.

Quick update on the ESP "disable" via VAGCOM steering angle sensor delete. After playing around with the car yesterday, I noticed that it tends to understeer more before going neutral/oversteer. I'm sure the Gen4 Haldex takes steering angle into consideration before preloading the rear clutches. With the steering angle sensor disabled, it seems that the front wheels actually slip/spin before power is transferred to the rear. Uncle Paco is not happy about this!

After driving Mike's R I began the mod addiction. He's an enabler! It's all his fault. Now I'm stage 1+ with a Carbonio intake and couldn't be happier. He's worth the trip even if you're not local.

With all due respect Mr. Rictus, don't you have a 24v twin turbo to go finish up from years ago?![]()
Swap your motor into something AWD as your BEAST and pick up a MK6 R for fuel efficient fun.

Someone was just asking in another thread what it would take to get 245 or 255s on. Sounds like you might have an answer.

Again Mike
From your observation, what kind of modification needed to run the TT spindles?
Is it only the steering ends?

I did some calculations at one point to see how much weight would have to come off the front to get down to 50/50 and it was a retarded amount...in the 300lbs range IIRC. And if you take off the back too then you could be doing yourself a disservice as you'd want to keep the proportions the same. If you take more off the rear (percentage-wise compared to the weight over the rear) then that will actually make the f/r split move towards the front...admittedly by very small amounts. Just to illustrate that with silly numbers:
If the car weighs 10,000 lbs with 6,000 lbs on the front and 4,000 lbs on the rear so a nice 60/40 split. Now you lop off 2,000 lbs from the front and 2,000 lbs from the rear that leaves you with a car that weighs 6,000 lbs with 4,000 lbs on the front and 2,000lbs on the rear so you now have a 67/33 split.
I was thinking of doing the battery relocation and it was a fraction of a percent. It all helps but it made me realize that I am not ever going to do enough to actually make a difference.
