I have been waiting (and waiting and waiting) for a GLI grill kit for my car. I was not looking forward to drilling holes in it for my front license plate. While at Wasser Wagens this Saturday I noticed that a lot of you are running with front plates on the dash. Has anyone ever been hassled by their local constable for this?

It depends honestly on what county you're in. Right now the law isn't written correctly and won't be re-written until the 2013 legislation session begins. So right now, you're not violating the state law by having your front plate up in your dash. The law states that two plates must be displayed in front and back at all times. The law was re-written after a case in which a man was pulled over for not running a front plate and was found carrying kilos of cocaine. He was let off on a technicality in the law the first time, but stupid criminals don't learn from their mistakes and he was caught a second time and pulled over again on the same probable cause of not running a front plate. This time he was convicted and the judge that did the sentencing demanded the law be ratified.

Here is the information on the law being miss-written: http://www.myfoxdfw.com/dpp/traffic/...ate-law-011112

Here is the story on the guy who got busted and started all these changes: http://www.statesman.com/news/texas-...st-918800.html

carry your plate and a makeshift looking mounting bracket in the trunk of any kind. if a cop pulls you over, be nice and ask to show him your unfinished mounting solution, and explain that it's been a time consuming project because of whatever, like parts out of stock or anything else. you'll get a warning on a bad day, and a full pass on a good day. it's worked for me for years. sounds like BS, but a true story.
