blaaargh, I will never get used to that ridiculous D-pillar kink. Kind of sad that the new Pathfinder is better looking. I think the article called it exactly for what it is...a comfy, roomy semi-upscale brat-hauler with a good usable third row and respectable fuel economy, and nothing more. I'll bet that CVT makes it an absolute turd to drive.

Why would anyone expect greatness? Toyota didn't try with the RX and Honda didn't try much harder with the MDX. GM certainly hasn't tried with the current SRX and Ford has given us a refried 1999 S80 in the current explorer. If Nissan can make a profit off of spendy, unsavvy customers, more power to them. Hopefully it'll translate into an eternally competitive Z and G... inshallah, it'll eventually result in a competitive Sentra.... when I'm 90.

Ridiculously overstyled.

Their most recent generation of interiors is very, very good -- FX/M/QX/JX.

The G is sort of the leftover in the lineup. The interior isn't bad by any means, but it could be better.

And Nissan's CVTs are *very* good when mated to big engines. The V6 + CVT in the Altima/Maxima is great to drive. Big, fat wave of torque--what's not to like?

The current G interior looks incredibly cheap for the price of the car.
The changes are small, but here is a 2010-12 G interior.

It's not superb, but it's clean and sleek. On par with the Lexus IS, and certainly worlds better than this old-school GM parts bin masterpiece.

Credit Infiniti for avoiding the LED lights and big gaping grille trend.....

Note to OP, its a 2013, not 2012.
We get a LOT of calls and e-mails about this thing. I think it will easily become the second volume vehicle behind the G. It fills a gap that's been missing for a long time in Infiniti's line-up, and they are gunning right at the MDX.

3-Series interiors have never really impressed me. Either the material quality is good and the design sucks (E46) or the design is cool and the material quality sucks (E36, E90, apparently F30).

Regardless, this should be a smash hit for Infiniti.

More CVT, more not caring. I've driven an Altima and a Murano and neither gave me any kind of feel or feedback. Granted they are people movers and not meant to be inspiring, but at least make an SE-R Altima again with a proper gearbox and manual.

Even the Maxima is called a sports-sedan by their company, yet comes only in CVT:facepalm:

I just can't come to terms with CVT's and that will always keep me away from Nissan/Infiniti.

It looks a lot nicer in person, I have to admit. I wasn't sold on it just from the pics when it first came out. I actually think Infiniti will sell a lot of these. It's similar in style to an ML or GL Mercedes but obviously more afforable. The interior looks nice, I think a lot of people assume the worst of Infiniti interiors from pictures but when you sit in them they are quite nice. It has a solid and more luxurious feel overall than the F30 I recently test drove.

However, i'm not too sure why Infiniti went with the old VQ35..they keep doing that in America for some reason while all of the other countries are getting the VQ37 in the cuv's/suv's. My best guess is they want to test the market for this and will then introduce the other new engines expected to be released. Even the VQ40 would have been a better choice. I also find it hard to believe the CVT squeaked out better mileage than the 7 speed, and that surely would have made acceleration a bit better too.

All in all 8 seconds 0-60 for this big thing is still class competitive, and the people buying it are likely not thinking about fast 0-60 sprints.

I think this vehicle will be a the next best seller for Infiniti after the G. Sure, it doesn't seem to have the driving abilities of vehicles like the MDX, or X5, but Infiniti already has the FX if that's what you want. This vehicle instead targets comfort, utility and value. Provided you don't go crazy with options a well optioned model with AWD could be had for $42K. That undercuts pretty much every other vehicle in this class
