I'm currently looking at getting a job up in Everett, Washington and I'm from southeast. How is it to live up there? Is there a big car scene? I've lived in NY,NJ,MD,GA,FL but never lived on the west coast. Didn't know how the people are over there. Is there alot of crime?

If you can afford it I would look for a place a little further south than Everett. Maybe in Bothell, Woodinville, Kirkland, Redmond, somewhere in that area. Nicer than Everett itself, but over all the Northwest is awesome, and you definitely learn to appreciated the sun when it comes out. Winters aren't terrible here, and the summers are to die for.

Well living most of my life in fl not seeing the sun is going to be a big change but changes are good. Well at least i hope so. lol It's not set in stone yet but i thought i might as well start asking around just in case. I'm 34 latin and single so i just want to make sure there is things to do there when I'm not working so i won't be bored in a apartment with nothing to do.

I'm from Edmonds, which is about 10 min south of Everett. My dad and sister both live in Everett. Honestly, Everett is really hit or miss. If you're around Boeing/Paine Field it can get kinda sketch especially around Casino Rd. As others have suggested, if you can afford it look to live a little south of Everett if you don't mind commuting. Even as close as Lynnwood (~10 min south) has some really nice places you could look in to. The others (Woodinville, Redmond, Kirkland, etc.) are all pretty nice too, but they will run you a bit more to live down there.

PM me if you got any questions

I live a half mile off of casino Rd. Its repuataion is exaggerated really. Grown up around here and its not all that bad, just gotta keep your wits about you (and a weapon of some sort)

Personally think Lynnwood has some way more sketch areas. And just not a fan of the city and how they handle things.

Are there apartments close to Boeing? Are they in a ok area? How bad is the traffic in the area if i end up moving north or south out of Everett?

better than they used to be (we used to call Casino road "little compton") but its a decent place to get a foothold if youre new to town and starting at Boeing...

Good Luck man, and welcome to Snohomish county!!!!!

I put a vote in for finding an apartment in Mill Creek.

personally i dont care for oregon and i dont think it compares to seattle, everett is not bad there are very nice apartments close to boeing, and there is a good size euro/car scene up here. hope you make the trip well, p.s. if your a soccer fan you wanna live in seattle not portland.

I hoping everything goes well and i end up going there. I won't be working for Boeing but a company that works on Boeing's 787. I only hope that in time i can just get hired by Boeing and just actually work for them eventually. This move will be a big change for me as I will in Ga now so picking up and moving cross country is really scarying me so thats why I'm asking alot of questions. Also I just got a 2012 GLI and was going to lower it and put wheels etc. With the winter and snow should i just leave it stock?

Don't worry about the car, plenty of people are slammed and stay low year-round.

I'd just run your stock wheels or some steelies for the winter to avoid beating on nice wheels.

there is snow on the ground maybe a week out of the year around there
Unless you need to cross the Past in the winter to get to Eastern WA, a lowered car do fine on the coast

      You will love it here.

I moved to WA from New Mexico 9 years ago this summer and I love it. As everyone else has said, the summers here are amazing. I've spent a lot of time across the entire country and the PNW has one of the most beautiful summers I've experienced. The people are far more friendly here than many other places in the country. The only downside of WA is the rain in the winters, but honestly if you build up a good friend base and find hobbies that aren't effected by the rain the winters pass pretty quickly.

My favorite thing about the Puget Sound area is: You're always near the water, you're a couple hours from the ocean, a couple hours from the mountains, close to Canada, tons of lakes, tons of camping, and for how much it rains the roads aren't as bad as many cities across the country.
      oh herro.

Sounds awesome. I've never been to Canada so that will be cool to check that out. Are there meets throughout the year or just in the summer? Also are any latins other than mexicans? I'm Puerto Rician and being from Florida where no matter where your at in Fl theres latin food clubs etc.

This would probably be best, or even a bit toward silver lake... Down on the east side of the freeway toward bothell everett highway near 128th... Perfect location, close to everything, and not as expensive as living in Mill Creek...

      Welcome.

There is a weekly meet every Tuesday in the Lynwood/Mill Creek area that I host. There are a lot of low car friendly roads out here (stay away from South Seattle), you are always about 20 min. from some sort of body of water, and summers are nice and mild with mostly low humidity. I personally love going over to the Olympic Peninsula (really beautiful over there), but you gotta take a ferry if you want to get over there quickly. I recommend getting a tide book to see when high tides are and getting on the boat at or near high tide.

Dr. Hell bunny has is it working for boeing? I've been trying to get in with them and never get any feedback. I applied for the sc job and Seattle job and on there website it just keeps saying I'm under consideration but haven't heard anything. It's been months that I'm under consideration. I really would just like to work for them and not a vendor.

I dont blame you for that. its a pretty good job, considering my background... im a structure mechanic for 777, which is a IAM union protected job. being union has it's ups and downs for sure. .. some times its a lot of

I have a lot of friends trying to get in these days... and it seems the hiring process is alot different then it was when I got in 5 years ago.. i wish I had some advise for you, but sadly I dont.
we have been getting a huge influx of people in the last year, so it seems they are quite a bit more discerning in their vetting and hiring process now then they were a few years ago in the 787 hiring boom I rode in on. I feel very fortunate to have got in so early. seems like its a dog fight these days to get an interview.

what type of job are you looking for? what is your experience? do you want a mechanical type job, or are you leaning towards engineering type work? their is also jobs in supply chain work, like stores and parts delivery, truck driving et al. if you have any college, management is an option. they like degrees of any sort for management.

if you have some college or vocational stuff under your belt I'd say it's smart to apply for a crap load of jobs, anything you qualify for.. but be prepared for the possibility of getting stuck in a heavy mechanical job that might not be where you want to be. just tough it out if you do.. its easier to apply and move to other jobs within the company then it is to get in initially...

good luck with the move and the job hunt, my friend.
hope to see you on the airplane someday

Thanks for the info. Well I've been a auto tech most of my life and after i got divorced i decided to change my life and do something different. I heard about a school locally that has courses to become a Aviation tech. I enrolled and finished with honors got a job here in Ga. Been mainly working on heat exchangers on dc9's, md80's, 707's, 727's, 737's. Also worked in other areas of the planes like inspections, changing hydro filters, a/c filters, engines, etc. At the school i attended they showed alot of videos of boeing and the aircrafts. Between Boeing, Gulfstream those look like the best companys to work for. I would love to work in the line maintenence in either company. I just am tired of working at little companys and want to move up to a big company which i can work 20-30 years and retire. The smaller companys are good for the experence but have no long term benefits like the bigger companys. Well hopefully something good happens soon. Again thanks for the info and hopefully see you on the line someday.

Looks like i'm one step closer to moving up there. So Mill Creek is going to be the best area to look at? I started looking online at rent.com for apartments. Is there ones or in better areas?

Mill Creek and Mukilteo are both very nice areas and close to Everett. They are both fairly expensive though.
