Hi, I haven't been to this forum in a while but I thought I'd post an update on an older model for those who are looking to buy used.
My 3.2l is now almost 5 years old and generally speaking I've been pretty lucky with now serious issues coming up. I've never had the leaking roof problem so many experienced when the car was new but now I'm getting some pretty good leakage on both A-pillars. Dealership lubed it and so did I (Krytox of course ) but no dice. I'll have to have them check if the drain channels a clogged next.
Another issue , more serious or annoying for me, is the battery drain. Every time the car sits for more than 4-5 days it'll drain the battery almost completely. I had to invest in a good jump starter. The dealership just said that these new cars just have so much "electrical stuff" in them that it's unavoidable!
Well, the replacement cost for the 3.2 batteries is $400 each! So 800 bucks for a car battery!!!
I decided to be proactive about it and make mine last as long as I could. I bought a Battery Tender Junior and hooked up the ring terminal cable to both batteries and put the trim back on. So now I just use the quick connect to charge the battery whenever I'm not driving it.
Hopefully that'll prolong the live a bit.
I don't know if many people will have this problem but I don't drive my Eos for very long distances so that might be a contributor. I just had my 20,000 mile service.
Other than that it's still my dream car. I went to the auto expo this year and checked out every convertible they had and nothing excites me. I also don't care for the new look of the Eos either.

I just bought an 08 3.2 EOS with 59K. I am very interested to hear what I can expect.

Rather then taking it back to a dealership, why not just look yourself? It takes about two minutes to check it and about 4 minutes to fix it yourself. I did this fix on my 08' and it took maybe 8 minutes tops.

Well, don't you have to take off all the trim on the header and sun visor to get to the channel? I remember doing that when I installed the microphone for the Parrot kit and it was a major pain to get it all back together.

Not at all. Pop back the corner trim piece. You can now unsnap and lower the A Pillar trim. The drain tube is right there. I popped it back into place and sealed it up with clear silicone. Never had a drop again.

when you typed this i thought for sure there had to be a mistake......thats NUTS!!!!!...........then i searched myself to see what i come up with......$326 each......still crazy!!

i usually prefer replacing with OEM batteries because i find they last longer.........maybe there is an alternative out there?????? that will still fit in the brackets???????

i have a 2.0 so i'm not familiar with the paired set up, maybe someone can take dimensions and specs and help the forum out........i have a little seadoo battery.....don't think that will fit but ya never know

I had the same reaction when I found out. The $400 is dealer price and I found your price as well on one of those parts websites.
Here's where it gets interesting. The batteries are Optima yellowtop 6V with a VW parts number on them and on the battery it shows their US website for replacements. ( www.optimabatteries.com)

When I checked out the website they don't even have that battery listed. They have a redtop 6V but that one isn't deep cycle AMG which is what I need.

However when you check out their European website they have it listed under model Number YT S 2.1 . If you do a websearch you can find it for 135 Euros. But nothing comparable available here.

SO my guess is VW has the sole distributor rights in the US market. NICE! If i would've known about this upfront, I might have gotten the 2.0 instead.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out this weekend!

I have not looked into this yet, but can't you tie the 6v lines together and install a 12v battery in the trunk? Seems pretty simple...please weight in on the thought...

from what i can see, the difference in the reserve capacity of the optima 6v red top and the yellow top is 100 min vs 120 minutes.........how much of a difference is that in practical terms?? for the price difference, you could buy the red one (available in the us) several times over to ensure a "fresh" battery each year even.

I have seen quite a few A pillar seals replaced on EOS for this very leak. If you shop around you can get both 6v batteries for under $400.
