I will, but first I have to buy one, or find someone who has one.

You guys actually seem lucky. I am having more issues than that. I had a '11 SEL w/Nav and the bluetooth was flawless. Never had an issue on all call features and streaming anything.Last week I got a '12 GLI Autobahn w/o Nav and the bluetooth is a headache. I cant select a number from my call history or phonebook and have the system dial it. It just goes silent then...nothing. I have to dial the number from my cell phone and hit "send" for the call to conect. I have the Sprint Samsung Galaxy 2S. Same phone I had paired with my SEL.
When it comes to music, it does nothing at all. I select the bluetooth audio and it shows a track and does nothing. I hit play and nothingI hit play on my phone and nothing
This sucks. I have a 12GB card in my phone for music and I dont want to take it out so I can play it through the sd drive. Just getting more ticked!

I have the same problem with my '12 Jetta TDI. I've been to the dealer twice over this issue and the second time they worked with VTA (I guess their technical support), and they actually told me that the vehicle is "performing normally" and "operating as designed".Ridiculous, given the fact that the sales brochure advertises the car as being able to "stream music in full stereo sound using nothing but the paired bluetooth device". I've also called customer care several times and no resolution yet. I'm expecting another call back from the engineer tomorrow. Has anyone else had any luck getting this resolved?

This is what I got from VW:
"Dear Mr. ----------
Thank you for your e-mail regarding the concerns you have with the Bluetooth® system in your Jetta TDI. I appreciate your patience while I researched your concerns.
Again, I am sorry to hear you have concerns with the Bluetooth® system in your Jetta. To get more information regarding the diagnosis performed on your vehicle, I contacted Mr. Charles Carter, the Service Manager of Leith Volkswagen. Mr. Carter advised that scanned your audio system to find any fault codes; however, they did not find any. They then checked to see if there were any compatibility issues between your Bluetooth® device and the audio system, but found they were both compatible with each other. They did find that audio coming from the auxiliary jack or media device had a better sound quality than the streaming audio, but this is normal for the audio system. Per their findings, Leith Volkswagen determined that your audio system is operating to manufacturer’s specifications. As we utilize our dealerships to be our technical resource, we stand behind their diagnosis.
I understand you disagree with this diagnosis, and I regret your experience at Leith Volkswagen did not meet your expectations. You may wish to consider taking your vehicle to a different Volkswagen dealership in your area, for a second opinion on your Bluetooth® system. If you do make an appointment for another diagnosis, please feel free to let me know by e-mail, or calling the Customer CARE Center at (800) 822-8987. If you make me aware of your appointment date, time, and location, I will follow up with the dealership on your behalf to ensure they utilize all their technical resources to diagnose your concerns.
We take all customer concerns seriously, and I have documented your feedback, so that we have it on file. Anytime a customer or dealership notifies us of a concern, we document it. We are unable to utilize feedback posted on the Internet, as it cannot be verified. If we begin to see a repair trend, we may address it by issuing a recall campaign or service action to correct the concern. If your Jetta TDI is affected by a campaign in the future, we will notify you by mail.
If I may be of future assistance, please know our Customer CARE Center is at your disposal Monday through Friday 8 AM to 6 PM, local time, at (800) 822-8987. You are also always welcome to e-mail us again from the “Contact Us” page on www.vw.com.
In addition, you will soon be receiving a Volkswagen Customer Care satisfaction survey. Please take a few moments to complete this. Your feedback is important for it will allow us to serve you more effectively in the future.
Sincerely,
Nick F.

To see this response is frustrating. Given that the issue is so simple to demonstrate, I am at a loss to understand the "performing to factory specifications" statement. I used the link and let VW know that as a new and otherwise satisfied, first-time VW customer, I am not at all happy with their stonewalling of this issue.

Turns out I was right. After sending Volkswagen my demand letter (pay me or I sue you), a rep called and said they would be replacing my stereo with the RNS-315. Win!

Here's the demand letter I sent, in case anyone cares to go this route.

Re: Demand for Payment
To whom it may concern:
Please be advised that Volkswagen Group of America owes me the sum of $2,000.00 because the brand new 2012 Jetta SE with Convenience & Sunroof I purchased has a defect pertaining to the Bluetooth functionality. After opening a case with the Corporate office and waiting over a month, I was given an official response stating Volkswagen would not fix the issue due to the “incompatibility” of my files. I am an expert in the field of Computer engineering, and I know this to not be the case. My case number was.
This will be Volkswagen Group of America's only chance to settle this matter before I file suit against Volkswagen Group of America in Small Claims Court. I am agreeable to a lump sum payment, or to a payment plan. Please contact me on or beforefor purposes of settling this matter. If I do not hear from Volkswagen Group of America on or before , I will file a lawsuit against Volkswagen Group of America without further notice. It is in Volkswagen Group of America's best interest to settle this matter before a lawsuit is filed. If a judgment is obtained against Volkswagen Group of America, it will negatively affect Volkswagen Group of America's ability to get credit, Volkswagen Group of America will be ordered to pay court costs, and Volkswagen Group of America will incur interest at a rate of 10% per annum.
Based on the foregoing, I expect payment in the amount of $2,000.00 made payable to me, no later than. (I can be reached at: (Telephone: ).) If Volkswagen Group of America decides to ignore this demand for payment, I will further pursue all of its legal remedies without further notice to Volkswagen Group of America. This letter serves as evidence that I have attempted to resolve this matter informally.
Sincerely,

LOL! Here is what they sent me:
"Dear:
Thank you for speaking with me on March 28, 2012 regarding the concerns you have had with music streaming from your phone not streaming in stereo format. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. As you requested, I am providing our position on this matter in writing.
I was able to speak with Sean Whinnery, the Quality Technical Manager that works with Volkswagen Santa Monica, regarding your concern. Mr. Whinnery advised that not all music file formats are compatible with the Bluetooth streaming in the Premium VIII radio system, and this can cause concerns such as yours.
Mr. Whinnery recommended using the MDI in your vehicle while listening to music from your phone to eliminate this concer.
I appreciate your patience while I researched your request. Volkswagen recognizes you as a valuable owner, and I hope you are otherwise enjoying your Jetta.
Sincerely,
Nancy S.
Regional Case Manager"
Essentially, what VW told me is that my files aren't in A2DP format (although she omitted that part in writing). That basically boils down to them saying something like "you can't transfer that Word document to your flash drive, because it's not in USB format." I laughed at the woman on the phone when she told me that.
Good luck all! I have an appointment Tuesday at VW Santa Monica to have my broken RCD-510 swapped out for a brand new RNS-315 (nav system) at no cost to me. I hope you all get similar treatment eventually!
#47
Congrats, hopefully we'll all start to get some traction on this issue.
#48
Hey titomb, does that mean the RNS-315 doesn't have the mono issue? I'm waiting on yet another call back next week. Supposedly the engineer that's handling my case is away. I'm wondering if I could just demand the RNS or will I have to threaten a lawsuit as well? Thanks.
#49
Yes, from another thread on the issue, the RNS315 does not have the issue, nor does the RNS510. The BT module is the same across all (recent) models. Additionally, I understand that the older RCD510 does not have the issue either (2011?). Only the newest RCD510's are experiencing the issue, which points to a firmware issue in the head-unit.

I shared the link to this page (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...Stereo-vs-Mono) and posted the following on the VWOA Facebook page. Anyone think I'll get a response, or do you think they'll just delete it?
VWOA, just wondering if you pay any attention to forums like the on I've attached? There is clearly a problem with the Bluetooth function on the RCD-510 (1K0 035 180 AE) that is used in 2012 models. You have the opportunity to stand behind your product on this issue, but people are reporting official responses of "operating as designed". I just purchased a 2012 GLI and I too have this issue, which I will bring to the dealership's attention next time I visit. I live nearly 2 hours away and don't have the convienience of one right down the road. I just hope the official answer changes, before owners of these units get together for a class action suit. Here is the link to another one of the many threads on this issue. http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...-may-need-mine)!
It appears to be gaining momentum on the internet, so the time to make it right is now. A response to this post would be great, as I'm really curious how you will handle the issue.
#51
I have a Passat with RCD-510, and I also have this issue. My trim didn't come with MDI, or I probably wouldn't have complained. But it's much easier to stream the music from the phone without plugging it in, but not if it's right channel only routed to both Left and Right. The fact that older RCD-510's don't have this, and neither do RNS-315/510 units, suggests its an issue with a particular run of RCD-510's. That means its VW's issue, not the phone's.

Here's the last correspondence I sent to VWoA, when they asked me to fill out a survey on how well they took care of my concerns.
"As mentioned in my initial contact, there’s clearly a problem w/the Bluetooth function on the RCD-510 (1K0 035 180 AE) that is used in ‘12 models, as documented here. http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...Stereo-vs-Mono You have the opportunity to stand behind your product, but owners are reporting official responses of "operating as designed". I just purchased a ‘12 GLI and have this issue. Why should I waste my time/money driving 4hrs round trip to the dealer for the same answer? The official answer needs to change, before owners unite for a class action suit. Here is the web address to another one of the many threads on the issue. http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...y-need-mine%29! It appears to be gaining momentum on the web, now is the time to get a fix in progress. All we want is an official response of "we acknowledge the problem and are working on a solution"."
Then today I got the following reply back... there may be hope yet, if they aren't blowing smoke up my ass because I asked them to

Dear Mr. Smith:
Thank you for your survey comments regarding the audio files not playing in stereo while streaming music via Bluetooth in your Jetta.
I apologize for any inconvenience this matter may have caused you. I was able to research your concern with our Product Specialist and he has advised me that, through feedback provided to our Customer CARE Center from our customers, Volkswagen is currently working on an update to address this problem. There is no timetable for this update’s release at this time. Our dealerships will be provided with the update once it is available. As such, we are asking customers to keep in touch with their dealerships for any available updates for their vehicles.
Again, I apologize there is not currently a set release date for this update and we appreciate your patience while we work to address this concern.

Wow. I'm glad I stumbled across this thread.
Just went and tested. No sound on left sweep.
2012 jetta tdi prem. ( 1 month old)
So what really is my steps? Going to the dealership and telling them on Bluetooth no left channel on streaming BT?
Next- when on the phone using Bluetooth it sounds like a tin can. I ask " how do I sound to you" I hear " awful- like you are in a tin can".
Any thoughts?

I JUST picked up a 2012 JSW TDI with the RCD-510 on friday and after reading this thread today tested the bluetooth streaming from my iPhone 4s with the EXCELLENT instructions provided here. No Left Channel!!
I hadn't had much time streaming prior to the test but had noticed some of my songs missing vocals during certain sections of the song, but had not pursued it as I was having too much fun driving!
My radio is: RCD-510
Part number: 1K0035180AE
HW index: H02
SW index: 0016
SW Version: 20110323A
Bootloader ver: 3.0
HMI XML: KW06/2011 NAR
I opened a case with customer care and they acknowledged the issue and said they are working on a fix..
Meanwhile, at least I've got a case logged and will probably give them until my 90 day courtesy check-in visit.. I can survive for now...![]()

Good luck friend. I hope they do end up coming up with a fix soon. There are a lot of angry Vdubbers that want their Bluetooth audio in stereo! I will say though, if you go the route of asking for an RNS-315 upgrade.. the unit is sweet! Now that I've gotten it properly installed, I am back to being in love with my Jetta!

Have claim number and appointment sched for diagnosis at dealership

The 315 has no HD Radio. A little history I read: Prior to 2010, if you bought a VW with nav, it came with the RNS-510. But VW apparently felt like it was giving away too much for the money, and came out with a much poorer featured nav unit, the RNS-315. Much smaller screen, no HD Radio, No HDD etc. So now only the higher level cars come with the RNS-510 and the Jettas etc come with the 315 when spec'd for NAV.
This is the reason I chose not to go with having VW replace my RCD-510 with an RNS-315, it would be a downgrade. Now I am awaiting the firmware update, and I am keeping my eyes open for a good deal on the RNS-510.
#60
So after sending an e-mail to both Marc Trahan and Jon Browning of VoA, I got a call from VW about the situation. Today I was told that a fix is in the works and should be ready in 2-3 weeks! It's good to see VW respond to customers and listen. This will be a dealer update that will apply a new version of firmware to the RCD-510.
Update the forum here if you get the new firmware!

I just got tired of the wait. I got tired of my audiobooks starting automatically every time I got in the vehicle, messing up my "bookmarked" position... Causing me to have to search back sometimes hours to find where I left off. I got tired of not being able to stream Pandora and other media because of the mono issue. I got tired of having a finnicky BT audio level setting. Given my experiences with VoA, I was not hopeful that they would correct all of the issues.
I bought an RNS-510 (E) U.S. Spec unit from a guy in Lithuania. After a bit of a struggle over the last two days getting it coded for use with the Fender Amp system, (simple solution as it turns out, a lot of searching to find), I was able to get it properly coded in VCDS yesterday.
While my wallet is considerably lighter, I am considerably happier. The 510 is brilliant. It just works, the way the RCD-510 SHOULD have just worked from the beginning.
BT Audio does not start playing in the background automagically. It starts when you select BT Audio, as it should.
BT Audio is not hyper-sensitive to the volume position of my iPhone.. Either distorted or too quiet.
Stereo BT streaming just works. Pandora, stored music, audiobooks, you name it, they all sound a lot better than I expected given the relatively limited bandwidth of BT audio.
The ability to play DVD Movies and DVD Audio discs is great too.
Sirius Travel Link and Sirius traffic are pretty awesome too.
I now have a mint-condition RCD-510 (2012) unit that I'll need to sell, but no matter, it should offset the cost of the RNS.... If anyone is thinking about doing the upgrade.... If it is affordable to you, do it! I would not recommend buying anything less than Hardware version "E" though. I don't think you can do the cool Sirius stuff with "D" or below....only the Sat Radio.

FWIW, I have a 2012 Jetta w/ conv. with a RCD-310 (bought in June 2012) and it is functioning correctly with my HTC Droid Incredible using Bluetooth.
To avoid any confusion, the sweep files described correctly at the beginning of this thread merely provide a sweep in Hz tone on either the left or the right channels. Obviously if your balance is turned all the way to the right channel you will only hear the "sweep right" and not the "sweep left". The reverse is true if your balance is turned all the way to the left. They are not files that are meant to sweep the sound from left to right or vice-versa.
I set the balance back to the center and use the video located at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTvJoYnpeRQ as the video uses two tracks to indicate left and right. The A2DP bluetooth and speakers worked correctly.
