Looking forward to meeting all of you as well. Just picked the car up with weekend and I love it! It was my brother's "work car" and he upgraded to a BMW 335i coupe and gave me a really good deal on the GTI. He did a bit of work to it as well, still not sure of the specific details but it has H&R Super Sports and he mentioned it's had some computer work done too. Not bad for my first car (purchased with my own money that is!)

Old Paul has a dilemma


I recently bought another air cooled (73 Super Beetle) with the plan to highly modify it including a Subaru engine swap.


I think I bought the wrong car and may need to buy another....seems this car is a pristine California solid Bug and is in such great condition I just don't think I can start cutting and fitting and changing it....this one is one special well preserved cosmetically restored car...even came with a photo album showing it arriving from California and being stripped and prepped for new paint (not the best paint mind you)...she is just so good I really dont want to mees it up

I need to get another donor beetle as my project car.


So I decided just now to improve rather than gut and rebuild this car....improve as in keep her a mean stockish 73 Super 1303 body style car with only some peronalized accents.

...ordered some new front springs (not gonna slam this one as it is too fine IMO) just lower a couple inches as Supers sit way high in the front (they have a MacPherson Strut suspension)

... and ordered new vintage narrow tires (145 80 15 front and 165 80 15 rear) to go on the vintage Empi 8 spoke 15" wheels

.....and since it has a bit of a mean look to it with contrasting black fenders, I am going to add a Zoom Tube to the exhaust (how cool is that)

... and going to LaminX the directional indicator lights and rear brake/indicators.

I took her for a spin today and made a short video...such a great day for a drive....

I got my wheels on today, thanks tho gents! nice to know we've got connections on here. I bought 2007 Audi A4 b7 cabriolet wheels, 235-45R17 ... mounting on was no problemo on my B5.. no rubbing either, ive got about.. 5mm of space from the struts. She a wide bitch. Now I just have to buy either lowering springs or coils.. (btw the 235 came mounted, im buying 215 falkens in a short while lol so im dealing lol)

Pulled the cabrio out today. I want it on the road now... But it's time to start the work on supercharger and what not, realistically it won't be out until June. Makes me sad now but I know I will love it all summer. Good things come to those who wait I guess.…

....but I am going to test drive a new Abarth soon and see if it fits the bill....I have heard they have dumbed it down for the North American just like they did with the base 500....if so, I'll pass.

WHAT A TEASE!!! looks awesome. That's what I heard too but I've talked to a couple of contacts and the Abarth hasn't been dumbed down thank god lol it's sick too, got to see one at the autoshow, comfy seats

It has been confirmed to have a softer suspension, different steering and different pollution control restrictions...i will see if i can live with it or whether I need to just drive the Euro model when I am in Europe and forget this one here

It's his daily driver and it's pretty awesome! Really clean but looks so good. He also has a B6 sedan in his garage that he is doing a lot of work to, going to become his show car.

About 6 in Ontario now... absolutely stunning car...polarizing looks but a nice performing machine ...acceleration isnt too quick, but tracking at speed is the strength of this car....comes with all the right motor noises... going for some upgrades soon...assembling the required parts...gonna keep stock height for now (too high) as it has been invited to an Italian car concours this summer and needs to look minty factory fresh.... then after, a drop.
