Hey man, you're doing some awesome work. Seriously, let me know if you need some extra hands over there. I'd love to come check the project out.

Boy oh boy, haven't posted in a while. There hasn't been a terrible amount of progress. CT has been a rainy bitch the past month. But I welded the filler panels in the engine bay in, and began the fun part. YAY BLUE BOOGERS!

Also scooped up a SWEET woodgrain wheel. I'm in love with it. Its an Italvolanti Formel wheel. Needs to be re urethaned. But other than that I can't complain for a gorgeous rare wheel.

If weather permits, I'll be knocking out work on the bay tomorrow and hopefully painting it.

Did some good work on the bay today. Its not perfect, but then again its not exactly gonna be a show car. Just something for me to enjoy. Still plenty more sanding to do before it gets the color coat.

Hoping to get the bay done by friday and get the motor in this weekend.

Awesome stuff man. I can't wait till I'm done with mine. Unfortunately I have to do all the prep work for the body and buy the supplies. But on the trade off my uncle is a professional body guy and will spray it for me.

Sitting at work... twiddling my thumbs... beautiful weather finally. All I can think about is how this time is being wasted when I can be working on the Scirocco. Hey at least I'm getting paid to wait!

Seems like i'm running into the classic case of intake manifold woes. I have a MKIV intake that i thought would work, being that its a little bit more lower clearance than the ABA mk3 one is. Still hits though. Gonna have to see if I can trim the hood frame to get it to fit.

Is it the manifold or throttle body? I know ive heard the throttle body has to be rotated on MK1s before

I'll have to find a link. To run this setup you need a different water pump pulley. The belt and new pulley are like $50 each.

      Done:

      -Axles rebuilt and in.
-Mk3 intake repainted and installed with new injector seals.
-Hood brace trimmed to clear manifold.
-Harness wrapped back up and (mostly) reinstalled.
-New brake fluid res and repainted booster and master.

      To do:

      -uh oh
      -spaghetti-o's
      -piggyback fuse boxes.
-install radiator and splice in old connectors for the rad and fan to the ABA harness.
-replace coolant lines to heater core.
      -fluids
-mount battery in trunk and run lines.
-get mk3 cluster to mount in dash.
-(maybe) bring dash to trim shop to be recovered.
      -install dash.
-get trans/wipers/headlights wiring harness. got a little too out of hand when taking the old harness out.
-modify mk3 exhaust manifold and downpipe to fit.

      Old jumper cables?

False. Now they're my battery relocate cables.

      Scrap wood?

      False. False floor material.

Just mocked up for now. Still need to screw things down, hinge the panel on the right there so I can still access the spare tire well, and cover in black carpet.

      Among other things of course.

I've been slacking. But past couple weekends have been busy.

      Finished up the false floor.

Also started fabricating a bracket for the throttle cable so I don't have to space up the back of the hood. No pics of that though, it was getting late. I'd love to just drive this thing already.

Thanks man! Did some more work the other night. Replaced the speedo cable with an ob2 speed sensor so i can run the mk3 cluster. Extended some of the wires on the engine harness and tucked them somewhat out of view. Looking really really clean so far. Having my rusted old fan shroud sandblasted and painted. Also rigged up a bracket to mount on top of the valve cover to mount the throttle cable. Got fancy with the cable and now I can fully close the hood without spacing up the back of the hood. I'll post up some pics when I get home.

Basically with where I mounted to throttle cable, it wouldn't reach the throttle body itself. Solution? Shorten the sheathing. To do so, I had to cut an end off the cable and pull it out of the sheathing. The only problem is that I couldn't reuse the pedal end of the cable. So I made another one out of brake line.

And here's proof that you can run an ABA in a MK1 without having to raise up the back of the hood.
