I'd guess the wheels are probably MSW.
Welcome back. Make sure you drive it to Cincy the first weekend in June.
If it returns, it was meant to be.
Hey there guys. My name's Bruce and I just picked up my Dad's old Scirocco. Its a bit of a cool story, because my Dad gave the car away to a friend of ours when I bought my 1998 Jetta in November 2008. We had the car for about 7 years and had too many vehicles in the driveway at the time. The dude we gave it away it to ended up selling it and from there we thought we'd never see it again. Turns out the guy that bought it sold it to a local dubber. My father bumped into the first guy that bought it and he told my dad about how the kid he sold it to needs a bill of sale signed so he can register it. So that was our lead.
We never really chased down the lead and just kinda let it go somewhat. Well last night I went to a local car meet in Waterford CT and I bumped into a kid I met a year ago going to Dubs on Defrost. We shot the sh*t for a bit and he brought up how he recently bought a 1986 Scirocco. Thinking it wasn't likely I asked him if he's been looking to get a bill of sale signed and he said yes. BAM! I just happened to cross paths with the current owner! On the spot I offered him what he paid for it, and as I'm typing this the car is sitting in my driveway. Already washed it for whats probably the first time since we gave it away 3 years ago.
So basically I guess this is my sort of history/build/picture documentation thread. It runs like dog sh*t right now because there's a few vacuum lines broken and plugged. Just this morning I ordered a vac line replacement kit and shifter rebuild. Hopefully it'll be running smooth and registered soon. In the meantime, enjoy some pics!
This is when we brought my German Shepherd puppy home from Massachusetts. Brought her in the Scirocco.
The day we gave it away. I took the alloys off to use on my mk3. Put some steelies back on that had ridiculous profile tires on them.
The Rocco wheels on my mk3. I can never remember the name of these wheels.
Some p-slots I had powder coated a while back. I'll be putting them on the Scirocco for a while until I get the BBS RM's I have put together.
This was on Halloween 2005. My dad's friend called him about a deer he just hit with his truck. So my dad scooped it up. Scroll fast if you're squeemish.
And here it is when I was picking it up.
Back home. My mk4 daily in the background.
Starting the wash.
It'll be slow progress because I also have a 1969 Mustang convertible that I'm working on getting on the road. I'm just gonna get this driveable first and registered with classic car plates. On that sweet cheap insurance. Anyone have any input on the wheels? They have "WSM" or something stamped on them. The center caps are in the trunk. Anywho, I'm looking forward to a long journey with this car.
Let me know how it turns out for you!
Anyways, back on subject. Picked up some stuff today from a pretty cool local dude. Scored some BNIB 16v tails. Along with some door sills, left turn signal, and a straight rust free left fender.
Also started the shifter rebuild the other day when I realized the rebuild kit from GAP doesn't come with the selector shaft bushing. Waiting on that along with the lower rubber shifter boot and a new shifter base.
'MURCA! lol. In about a half hour I should be on my to picking up a set of bumpers. Progress might be going a little quicker than expected.
Oh and yes, the Mustang is my baby. Just got a 302 for it not too long ago. Traded scrap metal for it.
Haha, thanks man. She's not much to look at right now but yeah when I'm free someday you can come by and check'er out.
And the parts pile is building!(tail lights not pictured)
This is from the day after I brought it home. My pup Aspen found her way back in. It was like she remembered that this was the car she came home in as a puppy when we first got her.
I always said that if the original owner wanted my rocco he'd be the on ly person I'd sell to, but I've had it 18 or 19 years now...
Now if I could get my Datsun B210 back I'd be telling one of these stories!!

Replaced the rear shocks today, no more saggy ass. Also washed and mounted the P-slots. Didn't like the look of the bare lug bolts so I put some MK4 lug covers I had kicking around. I like the finished look of them now.
Had these custom powder coated. One of a kind. At least not that I've seen.
Can anyone share some insight on where these vac lines go to?
I have this valve cover elbow ordered, but where do the lines go to?
This one I'm at a total loss on. Its on the back of the throttle body.
Then there's these two. I haven't the foggiest.
Thanks in advance!
So I'm picking up an ABA swap for the rocco this weekend. I got everything ready to go but I'm hung up on one question.
How does the evap system hook up? Just straight to the S2 rocco lines? Or are people deleting the evap system entirely and just dealing with the fuel fumes in the car?
lets document a couple things here before we get too backed up.
Swapped the white hatch on with the wiperless glass. This hatch is rusty as hell around the license plate holes. In the meantime I filled the holes in the good rust-less hatch and will be having it painted soon.
Dropped the motor out last night. Tomorrow I'll be pulling the old wiring harness and degreasing the bay/ POR15'ing the bay.
Also the carpet I ordered came in a week ago. Looks like I'm gonna have fun piecing this together.
Under 26 years of road grime and leaky fluids is a transmission. You can see it if you squint.
There it is! Used Super Clean degreaser and a pressure washer. Then I painted it first with flat black high heat rustoleum spray paint, then sprayed it with silver high heat rustoleum. I gotta take the gear selector boot off and take the paint off it. I could care less about the inspection hole not being green.
I could be wrong but I think those wheels are for sure MSW by OZ Racing. I dont remember what theyr called, but I remember I was looking for a set a while back. very cool wheels. never found a set so I just went with Compomotives. hang on to them if you like them.
I know they're made by OZ Racing, but I've never been able to find another set online. I should look closer at the stamps inside the barrels if I can find some sort of model number. I have all the center caps for them just no bolts. I might end up keeping them around. They'll need a refinishing. I gotta refinish my BBS RM's first though.
Thanks dude! A couple updates I guess:
-picking up an ABA swap tomorrow.
-ordered a PEM Stage 1 obdII chip to trim out some unnecessary emissions fat
-decided to flat black POR-15 the engine bay, and leave the top part of the rad support the car color. (did i mention the color i'm going with in this thread yet? i dont think so. you'll see when it comes.)
-also got some euro headlights. The low beams have no adjusters at all, so I'm gonna have to rig something up. And one of the euro turns were smashed so I threw on the NA turns for now.
And that's about it .
Boy oh boy, haven't posted in a while. There hasn't been a terrible amount of progress. CT has been a rainy bitch the past month. But I welded the filler panels in the engine bay in, and began the fun part. YAY BLUE BOOGERS!
Also scooped up a SWEET woodgrain wheel. I'm in love with it. Its an Italvolanti Formel wheel. Needs to be re urethaned. But other than that I can't complain for a gorgeous rare wheel.
If weather permits, I'll be knocking out work on the bay tomorrow and hopefully painting it.
Did some good work on the bay today. Its not perfect, but then again its not exactly gonna be a show car. Just something for me to enjoy. Still plenty more sanding to do before it gets the color coat.
Hoping to get the bay done by friday and get the motor in this weekend.
I've actually been considering selling my Scirocco but my daughter gets upset and says Nooooooooooooooooo
Have a picture of her at 5 standing in front of it witih her backpack ready to go hike but can't find it...
But this is why..

Awesome stuff man. I can't wait till I'm done with mine. Unfortunately I have to do all the prep work for the body and buy the supplies. But on the trade off my uncle is a professional body guy and will spray it for me.
bending new brake lines today. I was gonna put the motor in last weekend when I thought to myself, "those are the original lines from 86, and its been sitting for 4 years..." hoping to plop that bad boy aba in tomorrow though!
SO then! Updates yeah? Yeah.
Compression fittings on the fuel lines with barbed ends to put rubber lines on. Poly steering rack bushings, poly rear mount.
How the motor sits now.
Belt tensioner clearance. O.O Also, power steering/ac deleted.
so uhmm.. yep. tired. bedtime.
