Ok long story short my dogbone was accidentally installed incorrectly a while back and for the short time it was ran like that it put a heavy strain on my prop shaft bushing (4) and it finally gave out recently.

Well I got the old bushing out and it turns out the inner bushing (5) on the actual prop shaft end has damage. I was able to buy a replacement bushing but when I looked on the bently it says to replace the whole prop shaft if that part was damaged. Waiting on parts to come in at dealer but just would like a head start on finding a procedure to replace this thing.

    Thought or suggestions guys? Thanks!

I don't know but if it were me and that bushing were damaged and it is obtainable and replaceable, I'd replace it and see how it worked before I'd replace the entire shaft. What would be the point of VW selling the bushing alone if the entire shaft had to be replaced if it were damaged? does not make sense to me.

That's what I wondered. The bushing is pressed in - I just got under the car and cleaned it and confirmed. I just wonder how I can get it out and how to have new one pressed in. Well without damaging the prop shaft.

    Suggestions?!

Just to update I ended up replacing the entire prop shaft with a used one. Pretty easy task - a few hours and some beer.

Shout out to paulkots@Eastcoast! He took care of me at a great price and fast shipping!!!!

Did you have a way of balancing it, or did you just bolt the new one in and go ?

    It doesn't sound that easy..

The two part prop shaft comes balanced as one piece. Being that i replaced the whole thing the replacement part was already balanced. Its easy trust me. If you have a bently you'll see its all about getting the rear bushin lined up with marked points. Other than that it's straight forward.

Glad you got it fixed. I'd bet a good machine shop could find a way to remove and replace that pressed in bushing.

I only replaced the entire shaft because I was short on time and could not find a shop to press in that small bushing on the end of the shaft. Other than that, if you can replace the parts, go right ahead. Also make sure you follow the bentely - there are very important atuff to follow.
