Thread: What happened to Android Marketplace?

  1. 04-01-2012 06:32 PM #1
I have an HTC Incredable and don't do apps all that much, but I have noticed the Marketplace App. has disapeared from my Phone.

Is the "Play Store" the replacement for it?

Google took over.. It's the same thing, essentially.

Funny, another colleague asked me the same question just the other day. I also told him he should download the Amazon App Store app, less selection but better quality apps and a free paid app each day.

Google Play Store is a terrible name for it. "Play Store" sounds like a store where you pretend to buy stuff.

Google Market would make much more sense. Then again, that's why I guess I never went into marketing..

while i dont like the "play store" name, i get why they did it. yeah, its all marketing, "android market" just sounds like a place to buy stuff for your android phone...when in reality you can buy/rent stuff and play it even without an android device. especially now that they have google videos, and google music which dont require an android device.

still dont like the name though

Google Market was so much better, IMO. "Play" sounds like something a toy store would come up with.

Plus, I've found myself searching for the damned market a few times, forgetting that it's now "Play" with a new icon

Play Store sounds like something RIM would have for their PlayBook.

Guess I wasn't the only one who wondered that. I upgraded my phone and market was gone, Play was in. Play name sucks, sounds just like just a game app or place to play or buy only games.
Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop. A normal speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop heart. Make the bastard chase you. He will follow.

Definitely dropped the ball on the name, they also need to work on a giftcard system for purchasing apps.
