Sup Vortex Happy to say im a new owner of a 97 Ginster Yellow GTI VR6
Got the car for $500 with 170,000 Miles on the odometer but5,000 miles after a complete restoration... only problem with it was it was hit from the rear by a drunk driver while the last owner was driving it
...Pictures show most of it....but drove back to my house which was about an hour away.... Drive was awsome....Car came with awsome 17" Rims and A clean Carbon Fiber Hood
.... My brothers and I will begin fixing the body tomorrow morning i will be posting pictures on how its going.... Dub UP!
Also have a pic of my 97 Windsor Blue Jetta Gt With hopefully a Vr6 swap soon
The Bad: My older brothers 96 Golf failed on him yesterday the clutch gave up and now is sitting in the back. turns on but sucks that hes just sitting there without being able to usebut soon it will be back on the streets and back on the VW meet! oh yes!

came right on time lol spring break this week so we have plenty of time to do body work... any suggestions on front and rear bumbers? they need to be fixed in order for them to fit properly idk if they might crack though.. we gotta try
#8
Getting startedon the reconstruction....cant wait till this beast is on the street![]()
#9
any tips on a better way to repair the dmgs would be helpful... in the mean time were bending the parts as close to normal as posible

kk so we started on the front since it had the worse dmg.
so we took of the fender and started to remold the engine bay where the accident happened.
we started re straightening the fender and found this.
a hole in the fender... dont weather to get another fender or reuse this one and fix the whole and put bando on it.
and last but not least we started to put some polish on the hood to see how it would look...

idk i might think of just keeping the carbon hood for a while then move on to an OEM hood.. my dad wants to just fix the fender nd bando it to save money lol... well have to see atm were almost done with the front.. gonna have to order a right light though... if they by passed heater core would the CEL come? i cant say atm since my code scanner hasnt arrived![]()

that fender is WAY WAY WAY WAY beyond "just straighten it out and bondo" and frankly i dont think the few bucks a fender costs at Pick n Pull is far worth the time you wil waste trying to "straighten" that thing out. as for the hood OEM, that s**t nasty! alteast paint it yellow!

nice find! good luck with the body work.
oh and fyi yellow tremclad spray paint is almost a perfect match to ginster yellow
and the dull sun faded finish will polish to a nice new shine with a buffer and some good 3 step cleaner, color finish, polish.

new/used fender is prolly cheaper that the bondo your going to use. plus you can bundle a new fender, bumper & rear hatch for a deal.![]()

he planned on that alrdy... we dont really need much else but tht fender... every other part is in gd condition. were hitting the junkyard this weeknd and hope we find the fender for this... we might just primer it while we fix the rest
#22
Good luck man. Take the comments here with a grain of salt. Proofreading will help prevent some of the BS. From what I have seen and read bondo fixes end up needing to be re-fixed down the line and unless you plan to do the entire car in carbon fiber, most of the time Vortex doesn't react well to the material.

Haha thanks. i kept telling my dad that. I finally convinced him to buy another fender.. itll be easier than this. as for the hood.. were going to keep it like that for a while. then we'll either paint it or get another hood of the same color...
this is how it ended today..
BTW would anyone know why we can smell combustion air inside when we drive the car? happens mainly when we accelerate hard
#24
Definitely UNECESSARY...
But you will spend more time trying to fix the fender. Good thing you guys will go to the JY. There you can pick any rust free and put it on without bondo mess etc.
It seems you like the ugly hood. (IMO) But sell it or trade it. Get her an OEM one.
Myself I would worry more about the motor than the body work..![]()

We dont really worry about the motor since its pretty clean... fires up like nothing... lil to no problems.. the heater core was bypassed by the previous owner thats the only thing diferent. CEL is on but imma have to run the code scanner on it till i recieve the one i bought from ebay
we drive it up and down the block a couple of times since were amazed on the power of the vr6(our family has only had 2.0s lol.. first VR for us haha)
as for the pvc system not sure if its working imma check it tomorow first thing. thanks for the heads up

to help with all the engine stuff you will likely need to do over time you may want to get one of these if you don't already have.

pricey but worth it. I'd also check the classifieds on here as they pop up from time to time for cheaper.

Exhaust leaks and/or body panels with holes in them. If it's only with the window down, that's somewhat to be expected.BTW would anyone know why we can smell combustion air inside when we drive the car? happens mainly when we accelerate hard
