I used to do a lot of housesitting from my teens to my mid/late 20's, but after a family member died while I was housesitting and I had to scramble to get the neighbors to cover, I took a break. At the time I was getting about $30 a day.

I'm coming out of housesitting retirement this summer as a favor - 7 weeks with a cat and two dogs. One dog has been described as needy. The people are expecting to pay me a fair amount because it would be 'spensive to kennel this one dog...

What's the going rate for in-home housesitting these days? I expect I'll also mow the lawn once a week while there too.

    TIA.

Don't know about in-home care, but there's a guy near me in the NYC Northern Suburbs that boards dogs in his house for $40 a day.

I pay $20 a day for a half hour visit with my pet sitter, for two healthy dogs. I believe the one time I thought I might have to board them while on vacation, it was going to be well over $1,000.

I don't think $50 - $100 a day for in home pet sitting would be out of the question.

In NY I pay $20 for a half-hour visit with ONE dog. I can bring him to a local daycare place for $32 for up to 10 hours, but they let the dogs pee/crap indoors

I agree - two dogs (one "needy"), a cat, and the house is worth at least $50/day.
