Signs of a bad/damaged dogbone/engine mount.

Signs everywhere!!!?!?!?

Here's the issue. I roll down some uneven pavement and I hear this very odd, like something is seriously falling off/loose, clunking. It is very pronounced. I can also make the noise by quickly turning the steering wheel left to right. I thought it was the sway bar but, it isn't loose.. all the bushings look good, no visible cracking, nothing.


I looked under the car to see if I had anything hanging but nothing was there. I shook it, kicked tires, shook the exhaust, and yanked on some stuff to no avail.. couldn't recreate the sound.

Now... I can't keep driving around with a car that could be falling apart... I can deal with bad paint all day but, mechanical issues are not something I want to let slide.

Help!!!?!?!

If you have a bigger (weight) friend that can push down on one side of the car to make the suspension bounce (try to replicate the suspension diving during a sharp turn) a little to see if the noise can be heard and try and find it while he is bouncing it

Also if you grab the sway bar link at both top and bottom and shake very hard in and out, also up and down you shouldnt have any movement.

Thats what the concern sounds like to me, but its hard to diagnose noises over the internet.

Yeah, it's quite difficult to diagnose noises over the internet...

I might have to take it to a shop and pay a bunchamoney.

Inner Ball Joint on the steering arms.....jack car up and pull wheel out from steering rack and back in.....or it could be the anti rollbar drop links...very common...

Not trying to highjack your thread but, I'm having the same issues! just recently I installed a new set of Bilstein HD front and rear with the stock springs.
But previous to this install with the old setup I was getting the same clunking banging sound from underneath. Now with this new set up it sounds as if I have Geppettos work shop underneath my car!!!!

I have the same sound/symptoms and it is the front sway bar end links that are shot. I'm having a difficult time finding new fk end links as well

This actually sounds exactly like what happened with my jeep.

When I turned >90, I'd hear a 'clink'. I never did find out what it was, but hopefully that helps you diagnose your issue: turning the steering wheel.

Get a map, chart out everything affected by the steering wheel and test.

NGP had them in stock two weeks ago when I bought a set. I imagine they still might.

I just got a set of Ground Control end links recently. Probably a little pricier than the others, but they are sexy. I guess the only way to order them is to pm reflexgti. He builds them to order but I still got mine in about 5 days. The stock links didn't seem to be in bad shape when I removed them but the new ones surprisingly are a lot quieter.

The noise was indeed the sway bar endlink.. was quite loose! fixt. Thanks for the help!
