I was told I can't get oem fogs. Under the impression I had to go aftermarket.

The B5 passat's did not come with fog's in the lower grille, but the fog's were actually in the main Headlight( they were in mine when i got them) but i have not seen any after market Fog's for a B5, however they sell the lamps and wiring but it would require you to cut holes in the stock grilles, that's all i know.

I was thinking of installing fog lights behind the grilles without cutting the hole and adding the plastic cover so I could get a bone stock look with the option to turn them on behind the grilles (just hesitating because I don't know if the grille slats would be visible with the fogs on...). Seems like something nobody's done before so it would be worth a try. Ill take some pics when I finally get around to doing it once it warms up enough over here.

Fog lights are easy. I would mount them behind your bumper vents. That's what I'm going to do with my Passat. There is also an assy that you can purchase that comes with the fog light and fitted vent so it all sits flush. This assy comes stock on many jettas/passats. I think it looks clean. Be careful not to choose lights that are too big.

You can wire them straight into your running lights, so they're always on. Or into your low beams, so they turn on when you turn your lights on. Or you can run independent wires to your dash and instal a switch, giving yourself more control over when theyr'e used.

I'm going to wire mine into my low beams, so they're automatically on when i turn my lights on.

    Hope that helped.

I picked up a fog/lower grille kit from passat world. It's not plug and play by any means. Check eBay, they come up now and then.

I'm excited to see the behind the grille setup. Something I'd like to do as well. I'm actually planning on installing some halo headlamps that I will wire to the daytime running lights.

First to wire to the running lights what wire am I looking for? And cant you buy a headlight switch with a fog light option?

Behind the grilles is just a quick and dirty set-up until I can take the bumper cover off and do it right. For the wiring, I ran the fog wires up to a relay, then took my power from the OE fog wire that goes to the Euro switch. And ya, you need a Euro switch (with the fr/rr fog options) to make this OEM.

There are NA light switches with front fog too - like the one that came stock on my car (which I replaced with a euroswitch).

On a related note, my car is probably going back to stock next month.... as my GTI will take over as the modded car... so I'll probably have a little parts thread up in the classifieds soonish....

Behind the grille could actually be really nice if you can get the right grille. Especially if you don't use the lights often hiding them might be nice. I live in the bay area so mine would be on all the time but still. I like the idea of them behind the grille.

Would you suggest hid fogs or Would the wiring be too much for the space. I do have a fmic so my space is a little tight.
